average weight?
hey there everyone. Quick question to try and save myself some mola. Im building a homebuilt utility trailer, Which is going to have no reference to a professional built as some of my materials ahave been of heavier products than the alumnium that they use. But im lookin for reference
Its a 24ft, 8 ft tall, Enclosed utility trailer, Now i know mine will be heavier than those fancy all aluminum jobbers the pros make, But any of you out there know what your dry weight is? The reason im asking is in Iowa to register a home built if its over 2000 lbs or 2500 i cant remember haha, but anyway. If its under that weight area then you just go in give them a weight slip and they give you plates, If its over the special weight then you need to get a inspection and then they give you a title and so forth
I think the frame and axles were only like 600 some odd lbs, Been forever since i bought them ( like years) I cant imagine ive put on over 1400 lbs of stuff but I thought id see what the pro trailers weight and see if i even need to bother. The lady said if you know its over the 2k then just bring it in, but i thought id see how close i could be. Thanks in advanced

Here in MD the registration is written concerning its GVWR, not empty weight.
My 10,000 pound boat trailer weighs around 1800 (I think). My registration is based on the 10k number, not the 1.8k.
From a state vehicle tax perspective, I don't see how a 24 foot enclosed trailer would pass any visual inspection for a 2000 pound capacity. That rule sounds like it applies to little utility trailers to me.

according to my registration, my 20' (16'x6'6" deck) landscape trailer weighs 1260. i use it to haul garage doors on dailey. i cant imagine your trailer weighing less than 2k. good luck with it. post a pic of it. very interesting.
