Another Gas Mileage Question
Ok so here is the deal:
I'm currently in the AirForce and stationed at Eielson AFB in Alaska and I'm getting transfered to North Dakota here pretty soon. I am going to be hauling close to a 7000# trailer and maybe another 500-1000# in the truck/bed. What kind of gas mileage should I expect to get on an 01' 2500 4WD Long Bed Ext cab? The trailer is a flat car hauler that I built a plywood box on so it isn't going to be aerodynamic so I know there are more factors than just weight. I'm looking for a ball park idea. Today I was going about 60mph with the trailer empty and was getting 15-16 MPG. Should I expect another 3 MPG drop or will it be more. I am running all stock except straight piped, would an intake system increase MPG noticably or no? Thanks for the replies in advance, and sorry also since I know it gets asked a lot. This is my first diesel and first time doing a long haul.

your gas mileage will be zero. dont use gas.
however your fuel mileage with that year rig will be pretty good. speed will kill your mileage. at decent elevation, below 3000' you will be around 12-13. above 3k', down around 11. just keep the rpm below 2k, and you'll be fine. good luck on the drive
