Al-Can in April

Getting ready to head south in April on the Al-can from Tok to North Dakota to pick up my new fifth wheel. Just wondering if anyone has been down the Al-Can recently or had experiences at this time of year. I will be bringing chains and all the neccessities, but just wonder how well the road is kept up at that time with weather conditions? Any info would be great.

Wish I could help you out, but, your way to far north of I-10 for me.

Take Care

This perhaps is useful for the Canadian portion of your trip.

We traveled the Alaskan highway starting out from Edmonton on May 5th - - road had no snow but had it on the sides and all lakes frozen. No ice. The heaves had all ready been marked with the famous little white buckets with their flags in them. I was a bit nervous heading out, but soon settled back and enjoyed.

April might be good or bad depending if break-up has started, which you know all about if you live in Kodiak. I have been in and out several times and I would much rather drive it in Winter. They do a good job keeping the road clear and there is hardly any traffic.

Notw- yeah I know all about the break up. I have decided not to push my luck in 10 days down and back, I am having the new trailer shipped. It is such a gamble what your gonna hit as far as weather and road conditions in april.

10 days would be good if you had a co-driver, Solo might be a little rough. Especially with a new trailer as I am sure you would want to take your time. Hopefully we will get a decent summer so you can get some use out of that new 5er. Mine is shoveled off and ready for spring riding when and if we get some new snow.
