I am just looking for a little advice from you all. I just got a job that is going to require us to move frequently, and I was thinking of buying a trailer to move us. Originally I thought a trailer that we could put allof our stuff on and our second vehicle would be ideal, but it needed to be 40-45 feet long. I thought that would be way too huge. I have since thought of getting about a 25 ft gooseneck and flat towing the second vehicle behind it, anyone have any thoughts on this setup? anyone have any other good ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

 

If I understand you right - you will have the second vehicle behind the goose. That would make you a triple. You need to check your state laws to see if a triple is allowed and what restrictions if any.

 

You need to check with the local authorities. I don't think it is legal to tow a vehicle like that. Here in Minnesota the law states that the second trailer be a legal trailer (lights, fenders, brakes).

If it were me, I would get the gooseneck, and let my wife follow driving the second vehicle. You did mention "us" in the post, but I'm not sure that any of the "us" are licensed drivers, besides yourself.

I think that one goose and one vehcile behind the goose makes two trailers.

My wife is a licensed driver. That is an option, but then I have to pay fuel on the second vehicle, which is 15mpg best on what we have now.

DPG-
I don't know what constitutes a legal trailer, but our second vehicle does have lights, fenders, and brakes can be setup. I know that is expensive, but I hadn't thought of that.

If your moving your house hold items on an open gooseneck it will be exposed to the weather....if you can deal with that then get a gooseneck thats long enuff to load your car onto also....you can pack the car with items too

I understand what you are saying about lights, brakes and such, but, I don't think a car is classified as a trailer.

Oklahoma law states gooseneck is a ball and ball to ball is illegal, now fith wheel with boat behind is not as the fith is not a ball, go figure, This started when a coworker tried to pull his small boat behind his bumper hitch trailer and paid fine for trying, second time he paid fine was when he went to a fith wheel and changed it over to goose ball and tried pulling his boat, highway patrol got him again for ball to ball,and stated if the hitch was fith plate he would of been OK. I would check with DOT, and Highway patrol in your state, Goodluck,

 

I'm licensed CDL double and triple and these are just a pain In The a** anyways why make your life painful by trying to pull something it takes a CDL driver a special endorsement (and training) to do

 

A month ago I seen a new Dodge pulling a 32' fifth wheel camper with a tow dolly behind the camper and a Toyota 4x4 pickup with the bed loaded on the tow dolly in Tenn!! Wow, he wasn't in the slow lane either.

There're some states that allow multipile trailers, especially behind a fifth wheel.

I've pulled a gooseneck loaded with a farm tractor, tedder hay rake, and pulled a round hay baler behind the gooseneck without any problems short distances.
