91 towing 7,000lb all day every day?

I may purchase a 91 auto trans with 3.54's to tow a landscape trailer. The truck will be used all day every day, and may have a couple thousand pounds in the bed while towing my trailer a mix of stop and go and highway.

Am I asking to much of this truck, ie will I be going through transmissions and rearends with frequency, or is the truck suited for such labor.

I love the cummins, and would dearly love to have one, I just am unsure of this old girl will do the job, or should I pass her and get something more modern. I really want a reliable truck as well, I have an old Ford 6.9 that has been very trouble some. Not the engine perse, but other stuff. I have had alot of issues with my 95 PSD as well, but it does have 213,000 on her.

WIll there be a huge difference in towing between a 95 PSD, and a 91 Cummins?

I appreciate any help you fellas can offer.

Jay

I can't say that there would be a huge differance between the pulling ability of the trucks, but the Cummins WILL pull that load all day AND all night. If you are concerned about the tranny you can check with DTT, ATS, Suncoast, Goerend or other tranny shops for advice and upgrades. You should be quite happy after you get used to pulling that load with you truck. I pull a 26' fifth wheel and a 16' boat at the same time with no power worries at all. The torque converter on mine is beginning to slip some but I think it has a stock converter in it.
