4WD low or not?

I tow a 38' toyhauler behind my '06 2500 short bed 4x4. I live in it for my work in the oilfields of the Tx. panhandle. The rig roads are usually rough, wind and snake around and up and down thru gullies and hills. When I come upon the steeper inclines, should I put the truck in 4WD low? When I have done this before, the truck seems to have an easier time pulling up the hill, but I don't know what effect this has on my tranny. I have been shifting back to 2WD as soon as I get to level ground. Most of the rig roads are less than 5 miles off of the pavement to get to location

Well first of all you are over your trucks GCRW with that set up not that you were asking that ?. But to the ? in hand is as long as you dont keep it in 4low for very long and dont make a turn with it i think you wouldn't do any damage.

Unless you're on concrete or asphalt, you should be able to drive in 4-LO indefinitely.

I use 4lo alot even sometimes backing a trailer on asphalt only if i keep it strait and need to go slow to worm it into a tight spot. On dirt 4lo is nice because you can back a trailer darn near any were you want and dont have to ride the clutch.
