I think there are already plenty of posts on why this is. I would suggest just taking a look through those, and you'll get your answer.

Short answer:
To prevent 1/2 page sig lines.

(Yes, we have had that problem before)

My only problem with the 500 character limit is that I can no longer have a sig with links to pics of my mods - like Ed has. I used to have mine set up that way, but then when I went to edit it, the 500 character limit kicked in.

I agree that 1/2 page signatures are annoying. Is there any way the software can figure out how much page space the sig will take up and limit it that way instead of having a 500 character limit? A couple urls and you're done with the the way it is now.

That is the whole point. To do away with a bunch of junk in signatures. For instance, you could be putting information about your truck instead of talking about your NRA life membership etc. I guess it depends on your priority. I've always found it annoying to have to read through stuff like that when I'm trying to find information about someone's vehicle. I've thought about putting rules on signatures, but trying to enforce it would be difficult, so we look for the obvious and get rid of it when we can.

We've discussed it over and over, and over and over. It is what it is, and won't change, unless we decide to shorten it.

I took the liberty to edit your sig and remove some stuff that was redundant, you can say the same thing with less letters. Here is an example;

90 W250 stock auto, gauges, hybrid turbo, 93 radiator, Banks Intercooled, 3.07s, 3.5" exhaust, pump turned up, AFC spring removed w/custom cone, timing ^1/8" 3200 gsk, custom intake, kelderman air, 4" lift, 305/70/16 tires KDP slain!
01 drw 5spd 24v fass, gauges.
01 2500 HO 6spd 4x4, gauges, banks brake & catcher mach 1.6s SBC, 4" exhaust hx35/40-14W
90 D350 strait piped 727 3200 GS

Your Original;

1990 W250 stock727 auto, gauges,pyro post turbo, hybrid htt turbo,93 radiator retrofit,Banks Intercooled ,posi 3.07s ,3.5 exhaust,pump turned up afc spring removed cone at the bottom,and carved on. timing uped 1/8"3200 gsk custom air intake, kelderman air ride, 4" lift, 305/70/16 tires KDP almost go me!2001 drw 5spd 24v fass,fuel boost,pyro, no other mods yet.
2001 2500 HO 6spd 4x4 all the gages.banks brake & catcher mach1.6s SBC 4" exhaust hx35/40-14W
90 D350 strait piped 727 3200 GS

I didn't take time to count the number saved but it was a good number that I got rid of

I'm with wanna diesel, would there be a way for the software to limit signature size? instead of character numbers?

a couple of urls chew up the characters awful fast , if they were made into a hyperlink , instead of a huge URL , it might say "pictures"

Is something like this possible?
