Question about thread titles

How come lately after I look at a thread, it still shows to still be in bold or dark?

I used to could look at a thread and it would dim the title or something and I used that to let me know I have reviewed that particular thread. It wouldn't change back to bold unless somebody posted another comment and in that case it would go back to the top of the forum.

They still move back to the top, but if they haven't for some reason been posted in again..........I just have to read it or remember that I had. I know it's a little thing but it is kind of a PITA.

Thanks for any info. I hope I made myself clear what im talking about.

All the bold text means is that the thread has posts in it since your last visit to the site. One thing you can do - when you are "done" reading, go to the main forum page, scroll down, and click on "mark forums read". That resets your visit.

You may also have problems with the cookies the site uses to "remember" you.
If wannadiesel's suggestion does not resolve this, try logging out of DTR, clear your browsers cookies and cache, then log back in to DTR and see if that resolves the issue.

Rich.

You can also do that for individual forum boards by clicking "Forum Tools" located in the top right of each forum boards main page.

The "problem" that Texas describes is different. The thread title stays in bold indicating you haven't read it during your current visit only if you use the back button. Going back to the forum in any other way will cause visited threads to dim. Just clicking refresh on your browser will cause visited threads to dim. I use the forum jump button at the bottom of each page to go back personally.
A thread you have posted in can be in either bold or dim, the way you can tell if you have posted in a thread is by the arrow though the folder icon.

My threads always appear bold, but that's because I always use the "Back" button to return to the main forum page.

Well right now on this particular visit to the site, it is back to normal. It will show unread threads since my last visit as bold. After I have clicked on and reviewed the threads they then "dim".

I thought perhaps that it was some sort of site temporary change when needed by the administrators to help the servers with space or something.

This is an intermittent problem for me and I have not been able to figure out a pattern to it. Sometimes it works as it should (or that I feel it should) and then other times it doesn't.

It always shows my unread threads since my last visit as "bold". But usually it will "dim" them after reading....but lately more and more I notice that it is not doing that. Again, it is a minor thing. Just wondering why and if there is something that could be done to remedy it. Thanks.

We haven't changed anything on the site in about a year now. Do you ever use the "back" button on your browser? If so, then try not to because pages won't be updated when you navigate that way.

Ya know? vB 3.5 cures that little issue.

Jack,

Normally, I open the main forum page........then open a new window for each forum I want to read. I then open a new window for each thread, but I wind up going back and hitting the "refresh" button to update the window with the forum im reading in.....and it will "dim" the threads I have already read, or take them back to the top if there is something new added. Lately, at times, it won't "dim" the threads but everything is still updated as usual. I don't use the back button, normally.

My issue is somewhat weirder: when I enter this section (Site Comments, Suggestions etc.) all the thread titles are dim- and I know I haven't looked at most of them. This happens every time I enter this section, yet, as far as I know, all the other sections work normally. I'm not particularily worried about it, and I haven't tried any diagnostics, I just thought I'd put it out there.

That is because this particular forum doesn't get as many postings. There probably hadn't been a post made in this forum since you last logged into the site. The "highlighted" threads are only the ones that have had activity since your last visit.

My concern was once I check in and see a highlighted post, and then look at it.......it usually dims.....making it easy (during that session) to tell that I have already looked at it. Sometimes it dims them and sometimes it doesn't. At least for me.
