Please remove or change search delay...

The 60 second delay between searches doesn't make sense to me. Can we lower the limit?

I'll search for some info, and have zero threads return, and so, I wait 60 seconds, and try again.

I'm not an a guy that is full of info, so most of my time is spent searching.

Please lower the time limit.

Thanks,
Matt

I agree, seems a lot of times, if a question comes up that been asked before, the first response is DO A SEARCH...but the search is a pain to use!

Would love to, but can't. It's like that to prevent overload. The search engine isn't the greatest but it is what we have for now. We are not rich around here, and with that, it is what it is.

You do have the option of using the google search box that is provided if you go to the advanced search page. You can also go to google.com and use the following term to search for something....

site:www.dieseltruckresource.com abcd

abcd being the search term. For instance, if I wanted to search for everything that has to do with a VP44 fuel pump, I would use the following...

site:www.dieseltruckresource.com vp44

Try that and it might help you out a little bit. Some of the searches will result in an archive page but at the top of that page, you have the option of clicking a link that will take you to the main post for that result.

It works a lot better than the search engine provided with the software we use, IMO. If you notice as well, OUR search engine is set to go back only six months because other searches tax the servers more. The option is there to change it, but most people just stick with the 6 month default. If you can't find what you're looking for, you can change that to go back further, through older posts.

The other message board I frequent has changed the search engine. It works faster and does not have a time delay between searches.

Then I noticed that here there are 82,000 members.

The other one...6,700 members...of which we may have 500 regulars.

So, now I know that I cannot compare the two as far as performance or cost. This site is over ten times the size of my motorcycle message board.

I know the amount of scum we see over there...so it has to be worst here. Now, I understand the strict rules here about no buying or selling in the forums, and keeping the search engine as is.

With the google search :site www.dieseltruckresource.com is there a way to search only the dodge 1st gens? like :site www.dieseltruckresource.com/1stgens

What folder are the first gens topics in, or does the system not work that way?

You can't break it down to only look at a specific forum through Google since the only common part is the actual main domain name. If you look at the URL of this post at the top, the only thing common from page to page is www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev.

The other problem that has to be worried about is the possibility of attacks by hackers executed searches over and over again trying to bring down the site. The delay helps mitigate that risk as well.

I tried this term and got several posts related to gauges....

site:http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...opics-f93.html gauges

I changed the search term to other things and it seems to be finding results. Give it a try and let me know what you come up with in reference to your own search topics. I'm curious.

When I clicked on any of my results, the url was the same. The first page of the 1st gen forum.

At least now, I have a better understanding why the delay is there.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Don't click it. Paste it into a google search box, then type your search term right after it. Put a space between the url and the search term.

I had the same results earlier. I think when you paste the full URL of the HTML page into the site: criteria, it only searches that first page. And all results are that page. Every result I saw on Google was a link back to the 1st gen forum page.

Plus, it appeared to only search within that page. I searched for Isspro, which was on the second page of topics in 1st gen, but the search returned no hits.
