Question help make me understand...

As a faithful supporter of this site (in which I have donated a lot to) I hate to bash, but.....

Recently I recieved my "only" warning about my avatar. It was a picture of "Special Ed" from comedy centrals "Crank Yankers". I was told it was being removed because of some commercial reasons... $$$... I guess. However, on this site I see avatars containing just the same type of icons.

Your Avatar was also advertising the site you got it from, I don't think you were aware of that. It was removed because you were advertising for that website in your Avatar.

No problem Nate, if you ever have a question like that feel free to PM me if you like We want you guys to understand the what's and whys when you get an infraction like that.

I notice that often the "Warning" infraction we send is misinterpreted as actual points against an individual as well. We intend the "Warning" as a friendly reminder of the rules and NOT as a rap across the knuckles.

We give points when the reminders go largely ignored or the infraction is extremely innapropriate. Your Avatar was a minor issue and the reasoning was explained in the original message.

Looking at the infraction messages, I think the wording of the base message is a little complicated and it adds to the confusion you felt in this case. I think we need to address that issue and try to find a way to say the same thing but in a little less intimidating manner.

This typed medium we communicate in gives little room for error or misunderstanding and often leads to hard feelings that are not intended. A friendly warning is meant to be just that, but I can see how it might not be taken that way.

On the other side of the issue though we want it to be taken seriously so that we don't lose a good member just because they didn't think it was a real problem that could lead to infraction points.

Anyway I don't mean to ramble on about the issue, I just want you to know I appreciate your input and hopefully it will help us on our end in the future as well.

Hi Nate- Sorry I wasn't more clear about why I pulled your avatar.

I figured you hadn't noticed the advertising. It flashed for about 2 seconds every 2 or 3 minutes - very sneaky! I had to sit there and stare at it for a while because I wasn't sure what I had seen the first time.
