Ban Happy?

Why does it seem the the mods here are ban happy? Had another friend recently banned for no apparent reason. Care to explain?

Ahhhh yes, it's always for no reason, isn't it? LOL

Lets all get something straight here...They are banned for a reason. Just because they tell you it's no reason or that it isn't legit, doesn't mean that's the case. You hear one side of the story. We are not ban happy but if you don't follow the rules, you're gone. Period, end of story.

So much happens in the background that there is no way I could go into it all. We'll warn someone, they come back and threaten us, then they get banned... Well after that, they go around to other sites and conveniently forget about the part where they threaten us as they tell their side of the story. Then of course we become net ****'s and such horrible people while the person who did the threatening makes themselves look like an angel, a saint who was persecuted and falsly accused. It's ridiculous, and it happens all the time.... That is just an example... There are a couple of other sites out there full of such refugees, and to be quite honest with you, I'm glad for them. They found places where they can act like children. They're not going to do it here.

The real answer to your question is that we don't discuss member issues with other members.

His name was coaltrain and he was warned about advertising for the company where he works. He posted another 5 ads AFTER being warned, that's when he got banned.

The truth is often much different from the stories you hear, had he simply stopped posting ads, he would still be here.

Oh yeah he was coaltrain here.. So whats the problem with posting a ad for a guy who is looking for a certain part or tool. I can see if its just random ads for parts, but trying to help?

My daddy always told me to listen to half of what you hear, and only believe half of that! And never trust anything you read on the internet! LOL He says that the internet is the cause of ALL the worlds problems......

Anyhow guys.....just goes to show there are always two sides to every story. Each side usually gets tweaked to their own advantage. While I may not be the longest running member here, I sure can say that Lary and the mods are some of the fairest you will run across on any forum.

I always look at it as " It is their rules, their bat and their ball.....I just show up and play the game!"

If the ad represents a product you or your business is selling and you are not a DTR advertiser, that is a site violation - there was a list of rules when he signed up and that was on there.

As I stated, he posted several ads after being told he can not do that. If he did not work for the shop he was posting the ads for, it would have been considered just a guy trying to help someone out as you suggest.

Non supporting vendors can not advertise here, obviously it would not be fair to our sponsors if we let non supporting vendors advertise for free. I explained this to him and he apparently did not care, or did not believe me.

We don't care what the members show each other in here, it is a problem only when a vendor tries to show off his own stuff here.

Example; if you show a guy a link to "widgets", nobody cares because you are just trying to help out. If you are an employee of "Widgets INC" and post a link to your "widgets inc site" every time you see someone ask about widgets, you will be banned, because that is ADVERTISING.

Understand?

It leads in banned members because we simply won't sit here and argue with people about what THEY think the rules should be. Like it or not, it is what it is. In addition, I don't care about the other forums. They run their sites the way they choose. We run ours they way we choose.

It's real simple. Play by the rules, you stay. If you don't, you're gone.

Quote from my previous post....

Gents, I have banned maybe 10 or 15 people in the year or so I've been a admin here, excluding spammers... they all earned what they got. We don't just hit a button when someone has a little hiccup. I have even seen banned members be re-instated when they apoligize and promise to follow the rules.

There are always 3 sides to the story. Yours, mine, and the truth.

We are not ban happy, but we will not put up with blatent violations of the rules after multiple warnings.

I'm sorry you feel this way, I wish that you could see our battles here. However, that's why I love this website. There are many others that have different rules... that's what makes them what they are, and what makes the DTR what it is. The DTR is not for everyone...

Every member is asked if they agree to the forum rules before they register, They clearly state that ONLY Sponsoring vendors may advertise here. If they don't wish to abide by that rule, they should not agree to it.
