Auto page selection

I have noticed that on topics with multiple pages that sometimes it opens on page one and at other times it will open on the latest page. When it opens on page one I then of course have to select the latest page. (Unless I happen to notice that there are multiple pages before I click on it) Most times it will open on the latest page. Also have noticed that on a topic with a zillion pages that it consistantly opens on page one which is the latest page.
Question: is there anything I can do to my computer to make it consistantly open on the latest page, regardless of the number of pages?
Question: After how many pages does the DTR site automatically reverse the page selection and make page one the latest. A few minutes ago looked at a topic with 8 pages and page 8 was the latest. Another topic with a zillion and twenty three pages had page one as the latest page.

Stan, I've never had the posting sequence jumbled up. It's always "latest post last". I can offer you this though. If you click on a sub-forum ie. "High Performance- Aftermarket Accessories", then click on the blinking red arrow, it will take you to the page you haven't read yet.

Example, if the thread is 8 pages, but the last page you read was page 2, when you click on the arrow, it will take you to either 2 or 3 depending on whether page 2 was completely filled or not when you last read it.

Could this be what's happening?

See, clear as mud!

Re:Auto page selection

I read it 4 times and am still lost.

Perhaps he is clicking on the "new" icon, and if it is a thread he has read before, it takes him to the first unread post, which could be page 3 of 5, 4 of 5, or 5 of 5.

If it is a thread he hasn't read before, it will take him to page 1-post 1, since that is the first unread post.

Personally, I like to read the whole thread before I reply anyway (if nothing else, to make sure someone hasn't said it already).

Amazing how a topic can generate 3 pages before I see it, and I check in daily, multiple times.

Re:Auto page selection

Sheesh, was I talking Spanglish
OK, let me try this another way.
Just did a check and looked at "Anybody tracking the hurricane". It opened on page one. The latest page is page 8. Why did it not automatically open on page 8? Most times on topics with multiple pages (8 for example) it will open on page 8 and save me an extra mouse click. (yeah, I know, I am bone lazy!) "This is me topic" has 21 pages. It too opened on page one and I have to manually go to the latest page which is of course page 21.
Other topics with multiple pages normally open at the latest page. I have had this "problem" from day one with DTR. Not serious of course but suddenly got curious as to why this happens.

The only time I have seen that happen is after an upgrade.
or
After I've clicked the "mark forum read" button.
If an old topic comes up, it suddently takes me to page one, even though I've read every post 'cept the last one.

I'd try clearing your cookies to start, that usually fixes things up nice and proper.

Re:Auto page selection

Well, I cleared my cookies and that got me kicked out of DTR as a user and was registered as a guest. So logged in again and find that when I click onto a topic that things are at least consistant now. Every topic takes me to page one and I have to force it to the last page. Tried leaving it on the last page and going directly to the home page and then checking again. Back to page one. Sigh. No big deal, but it would be nice if everything would open on the current page. Wonder why I different to everybody else? (No snide comments now. OK? ;D)

Re:Auto page selection

Stan, are you clicking on the topic itself or the blinking red arrow? If you click on the topic, it will take you to page one whether you've read that thread before or not. If you click on the blinking red arrow, it will take you to the first post that you haven't read yet. Sounds like you're clicking on the topic instead of the red arrow for new posts.

Re:Auto page selection

Hoss, I think you hit on it. I have never clicked on that blinking red arrow, just always on the topic. Interestingly, this morning on some topics that I have read before when I click on the topic it takes me to the latest page. Not all, but most. Will try that red arrow from now on and see what happens.

Re:Auto page selection

Thanks Jack, I may be getting up in years but so far I think I know the difference between a red flashing arrow and the topic itself when I click. ;D Don't worry about it, with this input so far I will play with it. Not a big problem even if I don't resolve it.
Thanks for the input guys.
