good news!

today pops and i went to PA and picked up the bed from tdimark, wow is that thing in great shape! yesterday i had a guy stop buy and offer me 1200 for my utility body - still waiting for finalization...so i will have money to buy gauges and start fooling around... i figure ill sandblast the frame from cab back and the entire bed- chassis saver bottom of bed and frame and for now just primer the bed so it matches the color of the truck eventually ill paint it

i just bought oil and filter, wow is it expensive...didn't have enough to get tranny fluid...its 10 bucks a quart

here's a good one, my friend got his grandfathers truck a 2000 f250, lariat, 6' bed extended cab..the truck looked brand new immaculate with gps, dvd and the whole nine, made a downpayment of 2000 and is paying off the other 3000 well today he took it to emission and his transfer case went... i had to laugh at that poor ford, such a nice truck at such a great price i guess all those years of plowing finally caught up with him

man am i glad i bought a ctd

thought id share the news

Congratulations Justin. Don't sandblast the outside of the bed it will most likely warp the metal and it will look all wavy when you paint it. There is other blasting medias to blast with but i'm not sure what you need. Good ole back breaking scrubbing and block sanding does wanders for a used bed to get it in shape to paint. I was painting my 93 and I didn't notice the paint cup was leaking---So I have a re-do on the drivers side. Good luck with it

must be a pretty good service bed, are you gonna paint the whole truck or just match the bed to the cab?

Having done 2 cab back sand blasting jobs I'll offer some advice.

Get a big canvas or sheet to cover the cab, it still going to be dusty, but its not as bad.

Drop the fuel tank and pull the wiring harness from the rear part of the frame, coil that and the fuel lines up and put them under the cab. I've had issues with the lower part of the U on the fuel tank side rotting out. I had to add pieces to the frame on both the ones I did. The last one was really bad, had to add a piece of 1/4" plate to the side and bottom from about a foot forward of the cab to halfway up the arch in the frame.

Check your spring hangers carefully. I had to make new ones on both trucks I did, 8 spring hangers all together.

I wrapped a rag and tapped in around the pinion and brake drums, I haven't had a problem with either one doing that.

Here's the front one before I finished it, I added gussets to it.

Here's a pic of the rear one I made, I changed the design on the next one. Had I been thinking I would have made a set of drop hangers like DNRCustom does and eliminated the axle block. But it works.
