AirDog 150 & tank vent mod install on a Megacab
when my fuel gets lower my fuel pressure gauges moves around some, but im not complaining. I didnt really bleed my line at all when I hooked it all back up after I got the fuel system on. we cut my drawstraw pretty close to the bottom of the tank that I recall and I think my isolator is kind of goofy working anyway. I want to just run fuel to the gauge eventually or get a fuel pressure gauge that reads more than what I have now.
Personally, i don't see the big issue....i can run down to the low fuel light and the truck still runs fine....the fp does fluxuate with hard braking / accell / turning when at 1/8 tank or less...but that doesnt really matter to me...as long as it doenst leave me stranded or make me refill at 1/8th tank....not a problem....he!! fp readings are erratic even when the fuel tank is full (quad fp sender issue)...
I have had the Glacier Diesel/Walbro set up for over 2 years now with no issues with fuel pressure when down to less than 1/8th of a tank.
I do have a fuel pressure gauge!
My original fuel pump was installed on the engine & I have the original in-tank fuel canister.
I guess the original style in tank canister flows enough for even the bigger pumps w/out problems
although I think the Fass guys recommended adding a draw straw way back when when their bigger pump was released.
I would guess the original fuel tank canister uses the return fuel flow to create a venturi to keep the canister full when the fuel level is low.
In other words it must work exactly the same as the Liberty fuel tank canister.
If there was a problem, I don't see any reason that it could not be modified exactly how Mark (53Willys) and Will (Fisherguy) have done.
I rarely let the fuel level get below a 1/4 tank & recommend the same to everyone.
These fuel tank cannisters are pretty mickey mouse if you ask me.
Just my thoughts... Joe

... plus the big thing with the AD is it removes all the air from the fuel, sposed to give better combustion etc.
<EDIT>
DOH, beat me by a minute Mark!
So is the white drawstraw your AD Return line and the clear ether hose is your AD feed line? Couldn't you just use like (2) 1/2" draw straws flexible ones from like gdp and use them both for AD return and feed and then still use your factory return line? Is there any specific reason why you used that clear ether like you did and not a drawstraw? Also I wanted to ask how did you put a load on the springs and compensate for how much hose to cut off so it was right lenght so when you put it back in the tank? Do you think running 2 drawstraws would be better? Also how come you did your factory return like that? Was the stock one no good? Also do you have to use the factory return line or is the AD return enough fuel return? Are these gdp drawstraws the best ones to use?

I ask because this is what my canister looks like up top minus the fuel fitting they already plumbed in(not my actual Canister). That grey fitting on the left side, is a vent right? If I put some type of other vent on the tank. I ask because if i put another vent and take that grey piece out I could put the AD feed like this picture and take that grey fitting out and put a AD return there and use the black hose just like this guy did as the factory return line into the canister and be good to go!! What ya think?? Follow me?

Blwnsmke,
I might have some answers for you concerning your issues with the 04 sending unit. My truck had the older style white screwdown locking ring and the unit itself had a grey vent up top. I did endup getting one of the 1/2" drawstraws installed into the sending unit for pick up right behind the OE return pickup lines. But before I go into more detail on it I need to get a few things answered and do a bit more testing.

Questions:
1.currently my fuel pressure is reading 25 stopped and at normal cruising 65-70 mph the truck reads 22-23psi, Is this normal it seems high? Is there an adjustment on the Airdog 150 pump to back down the PSI? I thought I read in here somewhere that its need to be at around 17ish?
2. Filled the truck up after the install and the pump ran for a minute and clicked off when it did it splashed foam and fuel out the filler down the side of the truck. When I did the install I capped the small vents on the top of the tank and I also capped the vent next to the 1 1/2" filler line that dumps back into the filler neck. Wondering if the only vent the tank has is the Tank vent Mod back to the filler neck...which happens to be farther down the filler neck ...if while filling the tank with fuel its flowing down the filler line and also down into the line conecting to the tank vent mod....which if i'm getting this right means that I'm not getting the air out and its blowing back at me when the pump lets up.....Thoughts????
3. Of course I drilled the drawstraw hole to big(even after I undersized it by an 1/8, what should I use to seal it and where can I get it??

Well I do know that the grey piece on the top of canister is a vent, do you not have that anymore? Do you have the stock return still hooked up? As for the ad150 pressure I think your fine where your at.. Im sure someone who knows for sure will say..
factory return stays in place, I used a stock fuel filter delete kit and removed the stock fuel line from the truck along with the stock filter houseing. I capped the stock fuel feed at the sending unit. Added the 1/2" drawstraw that Mark used on his (green anodized one) just behind the fuel inand out on the sending unit. My truck had the modded canister in tank pump. I removed the pump and black braceing and modded the bottom of my canister just like Mark did.
Now this is where we have a problem with the 05+ and Jeep liberty sending units there is plenty of room on top of the canister to install two 1/2" drawstraws and feed the return from the airdog into the sending unit basket. With our sending unit we have that grey vent on top and I was afraid if I removed it the hole would beto large so...I used my second 1/2" (flexible) draw straw from GDP and drilled a hole in the tank just below the sending unit and fed the line into the sending unit basket. Let me tell you that pipe is flexible but dont count on being able to make ballon animals out of it as its rather stiff.
Now when I did the install the gas light was on in my truck and the over head said 10miles to empty. After the install I turned the key to on and bled the line out at the sensor for the fuel pressure gauge. I cycled the key to on 3-4 times then started it...truck started immediatly and read 25psi sitting parked and idleing while I checked for leaks. Headed out to fuel up, out the drive down the road to the end of the subdivision and reading 22psi. Stoped at the sign and it flucuated to 8psi then back to 23psi. Never saw below 22psi till i turned it off at the pump reading 5 mile to empty.
I'll try and get pictures of the unit but I neet take care of the leak on the drawstraw, I drilled it undersized by an 1/8, guess it wasnt enough
