Wow! Edge EZ

Well I just installed the Poweredge EZ. Best $440 I’ve spent in a long time. My buddy has a GMC Denali that we used to test the performance against. He says the GMC is rated at 340 HP in stock trim, which his is. The first run we made he had me by 8 to 10 car lengths before we shut down. I was never close and never started to gain on him. I put the EZ in on power setting 1, and it wasn’t close again. This time I was ahead from the start and was gaining more ground all the way to about 95 MPH. I ended up ahead by about a car length or two. It didn’t feel that much faster but there’s no doubt about it, it is. This is great product! This wasn’t a scientific test and your results may vary. 8)

Re:Wow! Edge EZ

Found it on Ebay. Bought it from a company called City Muffler & Performance. Good guy, and fast no charge delivery.

Re:Wow! Edge EZ

I also just ordered one from that City Muffler guy and can't wait to install it! I've been waiting patientently for almost a year for the bugs to get worked out of the boxes, I hope it will be worth the wait...Does this edge come with the boost elbow and is it adjustable? What are some of the downsides to this box other than poor economy due to a heavy foot??

Re:Wow! Edge EZ

Just got my EZ installed last night and towed my race car to the track with the box on #4. It seems to tow MUCHO better even in the 95º heat we had yesterday...much less gas to get'er moving down the highway! My only complaint is without the trailer it just doesn't seem to have that kick in the *** I thought it would...maybe the fact that it's 102º today has something to do with it??? In 6th gear when I stomp it to pass it seems to haul, but rowing trough the gears I'm less than impressed thus far...maybe when it cools down some I'll change my opinion. Just seems to me that my buddy's 2002 HO with the Superchips box seems to have more *** kick to it....hummm. I will say this, there is next to no smoke on #4, I was looking for a lot more than what I seen. Strange thing was the first time I nailed it it smoked pretty bad, then every time after that it was almost nonexistent???

Re:Wow! Edge EZ

I have to agree with you. I didn’t really notice much difference in the seat of the pants. Only way I could really tell the difference is when I ran against my buddy without it and then with it.

Can this product be installed without gauges? or are gauges 100% necessary?

Re:Wow! Edge EZ

The only thing in life that's necessary is death and taxes, and even the latter is up for debate. I'd say the gauges are highly recommended. If for nothing else to be sure when it's safe to shut down. I ran my Edge EZ for 3 days without gauges and worried the whole time. It's your truck, do what you want. 8)

Re:Wow! Edge EZ

I've been running my EZ for almost 3/4 of a year with no gauges. I've seen all kinds of answers on here from no, you don't need guages with an EZ to you are crazy to not have guages. I will be getting guages in the near-future mostly because I'm worried about the lift pump going out and i'd like to catch it before it takes out the VP44. I'll also get an EGT gauge because I'll eventually get bigger injectors and it's a good idea to monitor your exhaust temps anyway. Boost gauge is something I'm kinda on the fence about. I really don't think it's as necessary as the other two. I could be wrong, maybe someone can give me a reason to change my mind.

Re:Wow! Edge EZ

With this box I don't really think gauges are a must have unless your towing at max GVW and at WOT for long periods of time. As an update on my rig, tonight when it was slightly cooler (95º) I spanked up on a 2003 Chevy ZR2 that had some crap done to it...you could say the other guy never showed up for the race! Now that I've had some time to play without a trailer hooked up or the kids in back, I've come to the conclusion that the Edge EZ actually made the power transition more smooth....not that throw you back in the seat feel like a stocker....more linier power delivery is what I'm hitting at here. I cannot report back on any more or less MPG...too soon to tell just yet. I'll be curious when this out of control heat wave breaks to see if the power comes up to where I feel it should be...or what I expected with the new box.

Re:Wow! Edge EZ

I can't get my 2001.5 auto w/EZ near dangerous temps solo. I can just barely hit 1250 pre turbo, but just for a second or two. Add a trailer and it's a different story. I'd get the gauges if you are doing any towing, EZ or not. I was suprised at how long it takes for egt's to drop. It is good to have the gauge for that. Especially at higher altitudes. Seems like the thinner air doesn't cool all that well. To the others that didn't notice much difference after the EZ, take it off now and notice the power you have lost.

Re:Wow! Edge EZ

Exactly what Wheezer said!

When I traded in my 1500 RAM, I had adjusted to all the add-ons and extra HP it had. First I pulled the performance PCM off of it and drove it while looking at trucks. Really felt slow! Then we struck a deal and I went home and yanked the headers, intake, and all the other toys off of it. WOW! That thing was a dog. I don't know how it got out of it's own way. If you ever think you don't have extra power, unhook it for a day.

With a stick you might notice the seat of the pants power gain even less, because you have to build up boost between gears.

Gauges are never required! Neither is a fuel gauge, an oil pressure gauge, a water temp gauge, a spare tire, seatbelts, doors . . . okay I think you get my point.

Highly recommended? YES! ;D
