Is it worth the upgrade?? Automatic trans babblings

Hi, i have been throwing around the idea of going with the 5 spd but i just started reading some more and some of you guys are actually enjoying towing with an upgraded auto. So, im thinking about giving it a chance, but i am on a budget, and I'm not sure what would help my issues the most.
My problems:
Towing @ 75- it does great!
Towing @ 25- it seems to rev and have low torque
It also builds the trans temp to 220-scary i think.

I know this truck has power some where, but with the auto, i cant feel it towing up hills, and im just waiting for it to leave me stranded.

Tranny has about 10 k on rebuild.
What should i do?
Thanks!

Since you just had a rebuild done. I would go with a lower stall converter along with a professionally built valve body set up for towing.

A better valvebody and converter will make it run cooler. You and get another tranny cooler from a place like summit or jegs and plumb it in. But you will notice that it wont need it once its fixed up. Right now your converter is loose and spinning more to get the job done and its just making more heat. Abetter one will do the job more effeicently and cause less heat build up.

A good converter, and valve body will fix you right up. And a deep pan will help with temps too if you can afford it. Check out www.goerend.com for the converter and VB. Mine have been awesome. definately makes the truck fun to drive, and she flat puts the power down now. It is most definately a LOT better towing too. the reason yours is good at 75mph is because the converter is locked then. At 25 it wont be locked, and they dont put any power down when they arent locked. A lower stall converter will change that.

So for a good converter and VB, im talking 16-1700$? Is it worth it compared to a manual. Because im thinking longevity also. I know manuals can last 200k...i wonder how much this will increase the life expectancy??

I love my tranny, I always wanted a manual in my truck until I had mine built. After Overdrive kicks in my converter locks down and it feels like my trucks on drugs. Good luck with the upgrades, youll be pleased IMO

Hmmm...i pulled the pan today, just out of curiosity, and there was a layer of metally junk in the bottom...everything from that silver gooo...to sparkly little grains of something...not a ton, but it was still there. Is this a sign of my trans dying, or should i expect that after about 10k?..

If this was the first time to pull the pan after the rebuild I wouldn't be worried.
My truck has more than 150 k miles since DTTing the tranny and it still works awesome.

Does it still feel like it slips at the lower Speeds?? Or does it hook up like a manual.

How much did your upgrades cost?

Call Dave at Goerend....his tripple disc TC & high psi valve body are awsome!! There is a remarkable and impressive improvement over the stock tranny. Should've done it long ago!!
