Ebay projector lights
Ebay projector lights
I was wondering if anyone is running them with HIDs as well? All the headlights I find on ebay have two bulbs and I'd like to as least incorparate HID with the bulb in the projector housing (low beams). My truck is a not a sport model but they provide a harness to switch over to the dual bulbs. Anybody know how well it works?
Thanks

Avoid those Ebay HID kits like the plague. Other drivers will thank you!
They are NOT DOT certified, and running them is illegal. The reflectors aren't designed for the HID ballast, but rather the original bulbs-- meaning the beam pattern is a mess.
If you want HIDs, why not install some Aux lights? At least those are properly designed.
The ONLY projector module conversion I'd consider is one that uses a name-brand module like the Hellas, and simply adapts that to the particular mount.
Try fitting some of the DOT modules Hella offers in 50mm, 90mm, and 120mm sizes.

A friend of mine put some 5000k HIDs in his daytona 675 an they look great. I can not stand the headlights in my truck and would like to do something about it before the weather gets bad again.
Unless the projector housing was designed FOR HID, then it probably won't perform as it should.
The problem is that a typical halogen bulb (H1, H4, 9004, 9005, 9006, etc) places the filament in a different location within the housing than an HID capsule (D2S and such) would. This means that the light source and the reflector are no longer in the proper spatial relationship and the beam will scatter.
If you have a projector kit that's DOT certified, stick with the halogen bulbs. The HID retrofit will void the DOT certification, and you can be ticketed.
Borealis truck accessories used to have some neat headlight kits... I dunno if they are still around...
