Window Tint ?'s

Hey ya'll, I want to get some new window tinting for my truck, I have been taking a lot of long trips lately and my arm keeps getting burned and the inside is hard to keep cool. I have called a few places and for all the windows on my ext. cab it seems to range from $185-$200 to get limo on it all.

Has anyone tried those precut window tints e-bay sells? How hard is it to install, what do you use and is there any intructions I could read?

If I get 5% would it be ok and be easy enough to just add it on top of my factory tint (it is faded so my rear looks like new 35% and the front is almost non-existant lol) or should I remove the stock tint? What is the easiest way to remove it?

I figure if those precut tints didn't come out to well I could just take it then and get it done at a shop and only be out an extra $30...

Anyway thanks for any input you guys!

I have a Pro Tint shop on site. The Tint in pre cut kits, and the tint at advance is a very low quality! I would recomend getting it profes. done , if not make sure you have some high quality squeeges (sp?) dryer sheets, a heat gun, and a pump sprayer! Its not to bad. Before i would put pre cut on, i would ask a local shop if they would sell you lumar or f1 for your personal vehicle! 135-180 would be the correct price range if you ask me , 185 for stripping and re installing! I had my tint on my 12v layered up and was very unhappy with it!

sorry if this post is confusing, In a hurry!

It's def. worth the money to have it done by a pro. Better materials and it will last/look much better

i tint professionaly and would say that it would definitley be worth your while to have it done by someone that knows what they are doing.. if not you will just end up with dirt etc in the tint... ps... if it is factory tint it is not a film it is actually in the glass... if you have any questions if you do decide to tackle it just shoot me a pm ! good luck!!

It is actual tint film on the windows, I just assumed it was from the factory because my other Dodge Ram has the exact same stuff (except its bubbling lol)

I was thinking about using the stuff this guy sells, he has good feedback but then again quality will show its true colors after time... I would still like to do it myself, I just need a clear outline of the proper way to. Plus its cheaper lol.

that seems a bit expensive. I see you live in magnolia, have you checked with Tomball Tinters? (i think thats the name) theyre pretty cheap and they did a real good job on the 3 or 4 cars ive had done there.

dont bother with it. i have tried that stuff before and its crap...VERY thin tint and even with the right tools is very hard to do RIGHT. i have done 3 vehicles with the stuff and only had 1 turn out that i was happy with. just put the $30 you will blow on the cheap precuts and down on a pro doing it and you will be much happier. i would think you can find someone to do it for around $150. tell em you will pay with cash

just pay the pros they usually give you a warranty as well. they gave you a good price quote. I paid 35 bucks a window. which sounded like a killer deal til I picked it up, and the shop concidered my rear sliding window to be 4 windows
so I paid for 6 windows instead of the anticipated 3.
but the quality is top notch

They were actually the first people I called and told me if I stripped the old tint they would charge $135 but they would only do 20% on the back windows and 35% on the front. I tried to convince them to do limo but even with the promise of cash and not wanting a reciept they refused

It looks like everyone doesn't like the precut tint, wow. lol

Well is using a razor scraper the best way to remove tint or is there a secret way thats way easier? My 'lil truck needs new tint on atleast the front windows (they are bubbled up badly) and I am just going to sell it after I get it all cleaned up so I might do the precut stuff on its front windows.

It should peel right off, if you have glue left over spray it with some good strong window cleaner , tape a trash bag over it and heat the out side, then scrape the glue, it'll come right off!

The factory tint on my texas truck (01') peeled right off. It cost $100 bucks for 15% all the around on my non-sliding rear window truck. I wouldnt even attempt to try it myself. The supplies to do it right for a one-time job wouldnt justify it. Ask around for a good shop.

First off Dodge never had factory tint on back window in 1996. THe Side ext cab windows did but never the back. A secret I have found to remove tint easily,, was spray amonia mixed with water on the tint, then put plastic over the tint on inside. put in sun for 30 mins and the tint will peel easily and most all the glue will come with the tint. Works especially good on cars with heated back windows.

As for Limo tint on side window, well depends where you live, most places its illegal to go that dark on drivers doors, behind driver, as dark as you want as long as you have 2 side mirrors. Also i find limo to dark at night to see out of, which is why the guy said 35% on side windows. Remember no matter what tint you put on, ALL tint keeps out 99% of the suns rays, so you wont sunburn while in truck
