Who got an exhaust brake ????

Looking at a jacobs brake for my 02 , anyone have any experince with them I have a 4 inch exhaust , does that affect anything in installing it. Is the install hard ? I have no clue about them , Is jacobs a good choice ??? I also heard the back pressure is not good for the valves , True or false ????? Thanks

I've got a Jacobs on my truck and love it when my 11,000 lb 5ver is hooked up. I think Jacobs is the best for our trucks because it hooks into the ECM and was designed for our engines. No throttle switches to deal with or anything like that. Install was pretty easy, just you liquid wrench on the bolts on the back of the turbo so you don't snap them(usually rusty). Eric

105,000 miles on my BD Power and zero problems so far.

I tow upwards of 12,000 lbs thru the mountains on a regular basis and at 93,000 miles, had to replace my original factory front brake pads.

Only downside is it's a turbo mount which limits your choices if you want to upgrade your turbo.

Ive got a Jacobs on my 01. Works well.

The problem is the Jacobs 3" restriction on your 4" exhaust. Caper, look at a remote mounted 4" Pac Brake or a US gear Decelerator. They will work much better with your 4" exhaust.

Where would one get one of these Pac brakes or us gear decelerator? Any advice on which one works better? Heard anything else?

I have a Pac with a 4 inch exhaust pipe works very good. I would not advise to use a US gear it goes on under the truck and is run by electric. Link to Pac Brake. Back pressure does not hurt the valves no different than boost from the turbo.

I always thought electric would be the way to go.....no air tank needed, when you flip the switch, the mechanism closes and the brake engages....?

That would be what one might think, but being under the truck with road grime, salt, water and so on. Electrics just does not do well in that environment. I was considering that brake when I was getting one. Just to many people where complaining about it being under the truck and all the problems associated with that set up.

I just think adding an air tank just to put an exhaust brake on seems like a waste of money? So the pac brake is an inline one as well? what all do you have to buy?

Mine runs off of vacum. I am not sure how yours would work. The link I put up has a 1 800 number. If you call them they will put you right. I have had real good customer relations with these guys. I have had my Pac for 2 years now I use it every day and not one problem.

I have a turbo mount Pacbrake with 4" exhaust too - it has no additional restriction over the OEM turbo outlet elbow....it runs off vacuum in the Dodge applications like the others - VERY simple to install, there is no need for a tank since it operates off the existing vacuum system and not pressure. FWIW, you can have the ECM interface option with the Pacbrake - I don't like that as I prefer instantaneous manual control. There are no longevity issues with the exhaust valves. I personally went with the Pacbrake over the Jake because service, replacement parts availability and price were all better for me locally.

Us Gear

I had a US GEAR for about 4 years on a Chevy 6.5 Diesel and it worked great when I sold the truck.Never had a problem with any electrical problems. I took the truck across country twice and it worked just like it was supposed too.
I towed about 10000 lbs.at the time.I just used a little WD40 at the beginning of the towing season as recommended on one of the forums.
