Wheel spacing to run 315's
Wheel spacing to run 315's
So what's everyone doing to run 315's on their stock suspension, stock wheel, 2nd gens? I noticed that there seems to be adequate room to the wheel wells, but that when new, even my 285's rub the front trailing arms on a full lock turn of the steering wheel. I have heard something about spacers, but I am VERY leery of spacers on any vehicle, let alone a 7,000 Lb diesel pickup.

would like to hear about this too, just i want it to look better. I have a 98 12valve, with 2001 luminum rims, and on the 98 they are further in the fender!
the 2001 with the same rims looks better, cuz the wheels are coming further out!
thanks!

I'm running 315's with a 2" lift and they still rub...but only on the mudflaps so I don't really care. My wheels have a lot of offset though. A guy I know is running the same tire...no lift on factory wheels and his doesnt' rub...think it's a 2k1 but am not sure....so, wheel spacing is not the answer, I don't think...
Thanks for the replies guys.
I have heard of a lot of guys going with the 2" leveling kit, and it definately makes the truck look much more proportioned and was considering it anyway ( I hate that tail in the air look when the truck is empty now) but this will only help with tire to body clearance issues. What about the tire rubbing the front trailing arm problem I have? Thats where a different wheel spacing would help. I'm due for some new rubber right now, and I really tempted to get some aftermarket wheels, but I am spending serious coin right now building the garage-mahal, and was thinking if I could squeak by with the 315's on the stock wheels. And I never paid any attention to whether our wheels are hub-centric or lug-centric. If they are hub-centric and the studs are long enough, I would consider making up some 1/2" spacers. But I would never consider spacers on a lug-centric wheel......

I've got 2" front spacers.......(leveling kit) installed lift cups, all else stock. 315 BFG MTs. slight rub inner fender DS at full lock. I had them on before the lift spacers and they rubbed pretty hard.
to answer your question, i have 16x8 american racing wheels with 5" backspacing. i have ran 2 sets of 315's or 35's before. they do not rub the fender nor the control arms on my truck. i used to run a 16x10 with 4.25" backspacing and they would rub the fender like crazy with a 2" lift but not the control arms. just in case you wanted to know.
