Whats a good turbo fr 450-500 hp?
What would be a good turbo for 450 to 500 hp?
It would have to satisfy these conditions....
Work well at high altitude.
Good driveabillity. ie quick spool up
Decent top end. Since I like to abuse my truck at the track.
Lower EGT's would be nice also.
Or I could keep the turbo I have and go with water injection for track use?

On the trucks we've installed the KSB1B on, we've seen spoolup as good as an HX35/12, and in a couple cases, the customers swear it spooled as good as their HY35/9. I believe that 450 ponies would be a little much for the tight housing and wheel, however the external waste would take care of any drive pressure problems, and should keep you cooled off to around the 500 mark. With your high elevation, you may see higher temps than we're used to seeing with the 'charger, but it will be about as good as you can do with the requirements you have listed.

One of DTR's members is currently replacing his ATS hybrid this week with a KSB1B, so he may be able to give a bit of a comparison between the two 'chargers, although he is close to sea level and will be adding fuel as well. The setup he's chosen will net him somewhere between 400 and 450 ponies, so he's right in your area.

Rod

Stake:

I won't go into alot of detail on this but my son and
I are real happy with our HX-40/16's! You saw how
my 96' ran with it out there with you. As you know,
Johnner's best run here at sea level was 13.2 @ 102.

We both have dyno'ed at over 450 H.P. both on the
Dynojet and the Mustangs.

Hope this helps you some.

--------
John_P

I was told of another hybred....that is not out yet...it is being tested currently is what I was told......I was also told they were expecting "big" things.....total drivabilty and 500+ should be no problem....He hinted they were expecting well more then 500.......I hope it works out.....I d expect rumblings about it in 4 to 6 weeks or so....

I m sorry but I can t say who ....what, where or why....

Stakeman,
I think Pushrod is talking about my setup. I have my HX-40 downpipe coming in the morning to complete the install. The setup includes a Kwik-Spool B1B with an external wastegate mounted on the manifold and a downpipe from the wastegate to the Hx-40 downpipe. This turbo setup should be easy to balance drive pressures and boost because of an adjustable regulator. The construction of the turbo is quite impressive, the darn thing must weigh 70 lbs. and everything is heavy duty. One of the reasons besides I went with the KS B1B besides durability is the fact that the KS B1B will be a strong top charger in a twin setup later. I will let you know how things progress. Don M.'s Mach III edm's with my drag comp box on 5x5 are causing quite a bit of smoke right now. Hopefully Monday the smoking will subside quite a bit!!!
If you want I will PM you some pictures of the setup.

You have a KwikSpool B1B <--- note the B suffix

The reason I point this out is that the B suffix means that the turbo, in addition to a tighter turbine housing (KwikSpool), the 'charger also has a smaller turbine wheel to enable the turbo to spin up even faster.

Rod

Rod,
I will correct that little error. I don't care what you call it, it is going to be an unbelievable single charger setup. Would you mind if I post pics when its installed?

Meacham
