Whats a good turbo fr 450-500 hp?
Re:Whats a good turbo fr 450-500 hp?
If I didnt have a KSB-1 I would be running a Piers HX 40. But I am more than happy with my B-1 at this elevation. Plus it will make a primary in a twin set-up! ;D

Donnie
Re:Whats a good turbo fr 450-500 hp?
The lag is what bothers me about going to a bigger turbo. At 6000 feet with temps around 100* the smoke would be a bit much.

I seem to be talking myself out of a new turbo. Just keep the one I have and go with water injection to lower the EGT while at the track.

I know somebody with a water injection setup ;D... You have the same concerns that I do.
Big turbo = more smoke, more lag, huge top-end power - we're never happy.
:'(

Re:Whats a good turbo fr 450-500 hp?
Remember: Water = More compression = blown headgasket... Now what are you worried about more, blown headgasket, turbo lag, smoke, or EGTS? Come on its so simple!
Re:Whats a good turbo fr 450-500 hp?
Since I am not running high boost I would not worry to much about the headgasket. Besides, I would only run water, and just enough to drop the EGT's.
Note: Thats the only bad thing about racing with an auto. You have time to look at the gauges.

Re:Whats a good turbo fr 450-500 hp?
Stake..I don't know why you think you need 450-500HP? You drive like a "granny" now, and the washer fluid injection system will only put out the little fire you have in your truck now..

Stake:

Sounds good buddy, but if you want to run my truck
you are more than welcome to do that! At least it
will give you an idea of how the HX-40 spools up etc.

-------
John_P
Re:Whats a good turbo fr 450-500 hp?
Steak,

You probably would not need another turbo if the power you have now was getting to the rear wheels. ;D
I have a premium used TC & VB with your name written all over it.

On a more serious note........... does the amount of boost you are producing have much to do with head gasket failures, or is more along the lines of actual cylinder pressures from the fuel/air mixture firing? Teach me something.................

Swamp Donkey,

You better keep that VB & TC. You still might need it.

They way I look at cylinder pressure is.....

Cylinder pressure is based on the amount of fuel and air which is then compressed. The more you add to any of those three the more pressure you will create. You have the same amount of force acting on the head as you do on the piston. Thats why the head gasket is the weak link. Kind of like a fuse in an electrical circuit. I could be wrong, but thats the way I think of it.

Stake..If I do come up to Denver, you better be wearing dark glasses....I'll be racing you backwards and I don't want you to be blinded by my front headlites...
