what TC do i need

well i am going to have a 2 tranny built. i sold my full DTT to my best friend so now i am going to have another. my question is how tight would you guys go for an EVERYDAY driving truck that also likes to STREET race alot. would you go with a stock stall, a hair tighter or really really tight converter.

Mine stalls at 1600rpm and is considered a loose one. Its an 89h. I definately wouldn't want anything tighter. With a large single turbo and a tight auto it makes for some interesting driving if I'm not careful. If I think about it I can take off and drive around with no smoke with the tst on 2 and smarty on 7. If I don't think about it I can cloud the road out. Also, I like a little bit of rpm when spooling the turbo up. Helps bring the boost up.

Stall means what RPM the engine will go to, when you hold the brake and go wide open throttle. Personally I would never do this with my truck, besides the fact I couldn't hold it with the brakes. Second if you have stock shafts, and are at least mildly modified, you can easily break a shaft. And third transmission cases have been broken doing that (extremely modified engine). I do know that at 15psi of boost I am at about 1900rpm. The stall speed of a converter, will also depend on how much torque you apply to it. A truck that is making 800ft lbs. of torque might (theoretically) stall at 2100 rpm, and the same converter in a truck making 1200ft lobs of torque might stall at 2800rpm. This is the reason that some transmission company started rating the converters by fluid efficiency, such as 89, 90, 92 etc. The higher the number the tighter or more fluid efficient the converter is.

As far as what you should put in, talk to your tranny builder and tell them what you have in your truck, and what you are going to be using it for. Typically though, the slower the spooling of the turbo(s), the looser you want the converter. There are so many variables though, the person that builds your tranny would be the best person to ask.

yeah i can already black out a freeway right now and i have a stock TC and stock tranny in it untill i get my second one built. i think i am going to go with the 89 and see how i like it , i know i will not get a 91. to tight.

I ran a 91 w/ a 1400 stall for about a year, it would move very good but made it hard to spool the turbo, Ive since switched to a 89 w/ a 1600 stall. But like Paul said, talk to your trans builder, he'll be able to help you the best.

I have a 91% with about a 1400 stall. If you buy the 89% 1600, I'll swap you. I can get a TON of smoke off the line, but it sure does GRAB!
My uncle went with an 89% 1800 stall. He has a Mad ECM, Van Aaken, PS 62 and he loves it for towing.
Once I get all my mods on, I'll see how I like it, then go from there.
I think you will be happy with the 89%.
