Need opinion on what chip I need.

Just bought a bigger camper and it is somewhere around 8500lbs. loaded ready to go. The 01 pulls it pretty good but now I am looking at maybe getting a chip to give me more low end torque. Don't care about racing and stuff like that. In some of you experienced tow guys opinions-should I get a changeable type (edge comp) or a fixed type like the Banks Big Hoss?? I can get each of them new between $400-$450.

if i was in your position, i would pick a Smarty. It is new and unbelieveable. You get i think 9 different setting to choose from, the ability to check and erase error codes and you can adjust for tire size. Someone that know more about it will chime in or you can do a search for smarty and read about it.

I'd spend the extra $200 and get a Smarty for sure. Super sweet set up for drivability and plenty of room for "fun" driving. It is also upgradable as new programs are developed.

You can get a Van Aaken for quite a bit under $400, if you shop around. It'll give you that extra power you want for towing.

I've heard great things about the smarty---- I have a Va, I haven't towed with it yet. I sold my Edge ez, to much timing for me, and bought the va and will put Mach 1.6's later. If your interested in a Van Aaken, give Mark Craig @ dieselperformanceparts.com he will give you a great price.

I'll vouch for the Smarty.... here's short video demonstrating the low end grunt(fueling) of the SW#9 program putting fuel threw DD3's.

I know the Smarty is "the topic of the month," but it this for a good reason.
-It does not tap the injection pump wire
-It is highly adjustable from under stock to wild (not on-the-fly, but by simple 2 minute download)
-It reads and clears all codes
-It adjusts for different tire sizes
-It is a boost fooler
-It is easily updated over the web
-It is completely removable in 2 minute download back to stock
-It makes coffee in the morning and doesn't like to cuddle

You will be very happy with the towing capabilities of this product.
