First off Welcome to the site. For one these are not dumb questions. What year truck are you planning to modify?

Spend some time reading in the forum I moved this post to.

You'll learn all you ever wanted about adding power to 12 and 24 valve 2nd gen engines.

If you want to do a fuel plate you need to buy a 12 valve Cummins Turbo Diesel. That would be any CTD up until 1997 (there are a few rare 1998 12 v's though)

If you want to do a box, or a chip you need a 24v truck because this has a computer the box can tap into. the 12v's don't and instead use a fuel plate.

It all depends on what you want, With a 12 valve you cant ajust the power driving down the road. But with a 24 valve you can turn the chip/box up or down. Myself I like the 12 valvers.

Warfootball, How much power are you wanting? Is the truck going to be an Auto or Manual?
