What plate do I have?

So, I am still waiting on my Steering Stabilizer, and decided that I would try my hand at sliding my AFC and CAM plate forward. I believe I was successful on both, but here are my comments:

1. While my knock-off bolt had already been replaced by the previous owner, it was still a PITA to get off. I would recommend to anyone that when replacing this use something that you can access with a screw driver or torx setup.

2. When re-assembling everything, the biggest PITA was getting the banjo bolt for the fuel line back in to the pump! I can tell you how miserable it was with the heat we had yesterday trying to get my big hands into that little area to try and get that bolt in.

And now the question, when I got to my CAM plate, I noticed that it had a big number 8 stamped into it. Does this mean I have a #8 plate?

Thats the od part, the pyro is dead cold....I ve never seen one so low, it idles at 200-250 with outside temps around 90-100 even....On the road it doesn t see 1000 I think...? and its in the exhaust manifold right at number 5 cylinder.

I think the pyro is wrong, (probably no by the way it runs, its pretty doggy at the moment) so it probably has a fuel delivery problem......lift pump? overflow valve....govenor maybe....

banjo bolt for the fuel line? What ever it was? you don t need to remove anything from the afc housing ussually to get it off enough to get to the plate or adjust it.

It sounds like it is probably a #8 plate....Did you slide it forward too? Was it back a ways in the screw slots to begin with?

PS, I told you about that screw......lol

Piers web site says you should be over 300hp with that plate in the stock location and a stock clutch might not hold.

good luck

Yeah, it was all the way back. I don't know what is stock on this truck and what isn't... Well some of it I can tell, but I haven't looked to see what might have been done to the clutch and tranny.

Jon, since the stuff we did on Saturday and spinning the starwheel all the way forward, and now sliding the AFC and plate forward, I am getting A LOT more fuel. EGTs get up between 500 - 800, but nothing over 800 yet, even on the freeway.

All I can find on an 8 plate in my truck is that it isn't recommended, can't find anything that estimates power... So does this mean I can forgoe ordering a #10 and just get my spring kit?

That is what Jon was saying, I have my Pyro mounted pre-turb on the #5 cylinder.

I can get the EGT up to over 1100 when I give the fuel to it and my #10 plate is in the middle. I don't see any air or exhaust improvements on your truck so it makes me think your pyro isn't reading correctly.

Yes what does your pyro run at an idle or cruising at 60 mph, should be about 250-300 idling and around 550-600 cruising. Just my .002

At idle it is around 300, but cools quickly. My CES never really gets a chance to do much, since the truck drops below 250 within a minute or so of idleing when driving around town. I haven't taken the truck on a long trip that would really tax the EGTs for me to see how long it would take to cool down a really hot engine.

Freeway I am seeing 500 - 700. If I am on an incline and pushing it, I can get up to 800 and I have seen 900 once. I should check the max readings on my Pyro to see how high it has gotten.

The only air mod that I know of is a K&N drop in filter. Other than that, it all appears to be stock...

So if I have a #8 plate already installed, what should I be looking for to determine if the injectors have been upgraded? I am pretty sure, based on driving the truck, that the spring kit has not been installed as getting this past 2500 RPM aint easy...

Is the AFC housing slid full forward, like it should be? If it is slid full back, or in stock position, it really cuts the fuel (power) back.

Found that out, after sliding the plate. I hadn't double checked the AFC. Had to slide it back full forward. THEN I felt more power. No change with the AFC housing to the rear.
