Question Way Too Hot!

hey guys, i have a problem with high egts. (see sig below) i have tried to adjust my boost elbow(40+psi with stock turbo)and have re-installed the stock boost elbow, which seemed to work better than the adjustable one, or at least am able to keep boost pressure lower(35 to 40). i have never been able to go wot, 1/2 to 3/4 pedal only, i am blowing boots or egts sky rocket past 1600 quickly. dont get me wrong this thing even at 1/2 throttle really hauls $$$. next week i am going to tow my new trailer 12,500 and am very concerned with the hills and such. anyone who can shed some lite on this problem, fire away. thanks Mark

slide the plate to the back of the pump a bit and see what happens.

um lets see here, BIGGER TURBO!!!

The stock turbo becomes very inefficient above 35psi so with it you will actually have more power at 35psi than if you ran it at 40psi. I assume that since you are messing with the boost elbow you have the stock 12cm exhaust housing, you would benefit greatly from using a 16cm or even a 18cm housing although you may loose a little bottom end but your egt's will be much lower.

thanks for the replies,
i was going to add htt turbo and bigger injectors for towing, but after seeing such high temps, am afraid the new turbo with the stock injectors would still be to hot. my main goal for the truck is to have a great tow rig and thought the mods already done would be a great start. i see alot of guys running bigger mods and egts dont seem to be an issue. my 10 plate is full forward and love the power, how much power decrease will i have in the stock position? try it in the middle first. I have mine there, and it sits about 550-600 at 65 mph unloaded. Loaded, it sits about 750, but will climb to 1200 on hills.

I've gotta say the BIG DV's and 215 pump combined with teeny weenie exhaust and barely acceptable turbo are what's killing you. JMO, but see what some 4'' sewer pipe gets you...and you're probably a good candidate for a 16cm exhaust housing, as was stated above. With the big pump, you've got way more going in than you can efficiantly get out, especially for towing. My .02

Throw a 16 housing, and 4 inch exhaust at it, and that should net you some lower EGT's. Also, just back the plate off until you find your most likeable combination of power and EGT's. It will just take some playing with. Also, if you put a valet switch in it, that will back your power/EGT's down for towing, then flip the switch and have fun empty.

i have the 180 pump, and i would agree there is alot of fuel. keeping towing in mind, will the httb2 turbo be a good choice for what iam trying to do with the truck? also i think a 14cm wastegated for towing is as big as i should go to keep the lag down. you guys have some great thoughts, keep it coming. I agree here with Eric

Was just what im thinking, i have the 14 cm exhaust housing, but no delivery valves, they are on my shelf at home tho he he he he, it serves my purpose, but a 16 is in the works when i do go DV's on my ram with 370's. I have ran 370s alone with that houseing, HOT HOT HOT on EGTS... right now i have a new set sittin in the house as well, i need to save up for a clutch and input shaft before i put these in. Anyways, if you want, you can go twins, slap an h3BT under there and ull have more than enough air and a good set of "inexpensive" twins..

i thought with the stock injectors i would be able to keep the egts in check better. i can lay a HUGE cloud of smoke at any time, stopped or on the move. so i know iam getting the fuel in. what single turbo would work well for towing my weight/mods and what would the cost be to add the second turbo/piping/boots? towing is my main focus.
