Water Injection?
Re:Water Injection?
The aquamist system I was looking at was at the Kerrville Tx. TDR rally, I just like the way it was setup with a sweet high PSI pump and a boost pressure switch to turn it on and off. I don't have any EGT issues at all now but I will sooner or later.

Jim
Re:Water Injection?
Water injection is the least expensive set-up for staged turbo systems. Once you begin adding turbos to a tractor/truck the manifold pressure goes way up. Too high for the average intercooler to be able to take without leaking in some cases. Water injection between stages lowers the amount of overall piping involved to route from turbos and intercoolers. The engines already disappear under a maze of piping and adding the intercoolers just makes this piping maze get bigger.
Water injection is used to lower to intake charge temperature from the heating caused by stagging. Some of the Western pullers I know of are running about 290psi of manifold pressure with water/alcohol between every stage. There is a small power loss from the water, but it is more than made up for by the much much cooler intake charge temps and higher air charge density. Ease of design when compared to multiple liquid to air or air to air intercoolers make it very attractive. I dont know of too many Dodge/Cummins trucks that would actually benefit from water injection in street use.
Finally, water is generally considered a band-aid when speaking of on the road vehicles by most turbo gurus in most but not all cases.

Don~

Re:Water Injection?
Jim Fulmer-I'm not familiar with the Aquamist system you're talking about. What kind "high psi" are ya talking? Mine only has about 1000psi. I also run a pressure switch, but I also run a toggle over ride. I flip the toggle on and let the hobbs switch turn it on. Intercoolers are a waste, throw them away and run water. Unless it's a street truck....then I would run a good aftermarket cooler as well.

Don-I didn't realize you were hip on multiple chargers and water injection! That's great! Are you doing injectors for these Western tractor pullers, too? I knew Gene,Johnboy, and KTA were wrong about you!
Re:Water Injection?
I've read that water injection is very common in diesels over in Europe. For what that's worth.

The Aquamist system is the far and away the best that I've run across in my research. It comes out of England and is designed mainly for small gassers but can handle larger engines with the addition of a larger pump. It is computer controlled and has a fully programable, mappable delivery curve, based upon rpm and boost, and a wide assortment of avialable jets. They suggest using a 100+ psi RV style Shureflo pump for the CTD. The programable delivery secret is in it's pulsating solinoid valve/pump. They say you can use windshield washer fluid in the winter.

I'd just like to talk to someone who's used one to see how well it works.
Re:Water Injection?
Once again guys, I dont know how far I want to go with my truck but one thing is for sure, I will never be done. I always think too much is almost enough. So from what I am seeing water injection wouldn't be a wise investment on my street rig? I am almost starting to look at 24v er's.
