A question that many of my friends have been asking me(and I'm starting to wonder to) is how does the Scotty not ingest water when the hole is cut? I know water has to get into the windshield cowl. Should I worry about water ingestion? We just got slammed by a typhoon and I nailed some MASSIVE puddles without even thinking about it. Thanks for the help yall.

 

I remember reading somewhere that when Scotty was testing it, they sprayed all around the cowl with high pressure washer, and the scotty was dry as a bone.

DId you pull it out and check it? IF its dry, then there is your proof.

IF it did suck water, dont you think that by now everyone would have heard about it, and that they would not sell like hotcakes?

 

Ya. That's what I keep saying. I was just wondering if there was any scientific evidence supporting it. Like a test or something.

Im sure testing was done and Scotty could probably provide you the results of such tests.

Scotty did indeed test this and as stated, even with a pressure washer blasting into the cowl area, the filter remains dry. If you look closely into the cowl where you drilled the hole, you will see very little evidence of moisture in that area.

I have been running mine through all kinds of weather, even with several inches of snow on the hood and cowling, don't worry your Scotty is safe unless you go snorkling

My first RAIN test was five dollars at the pressure wash aimed directly into the cowl. Truck running...and there I was wondering what the heck I am doing. I was waiting for the engine to die.

I had a very very small drip off the bottom of the Scotty unit.

This test was done in 1998. I have also been in the heavy Texas rain. One time we got 5" of rain in the Gulf area while driving my 01'. Again...no problemo.

Theres been several thousands sold...never had an issue with rain. There will be folks asking and critics critiqueing. I still get people saying theres no way it can do what it does.

I have ran the both Scotty Systems for almost as long as they have been around and I did my own test before I sealed the back side of my Scotty 1 off and the lip inside the cowl stops most of the water from going into the housing. I did my test in a shop using just running water and shop air pressure to give the same effect as driving down the road and just as my little buddy Scotty said just a drip or two cam out the bottom of the Scotty Housing.

 

Since I installed the Scotty II with the hole cut, I have been in the worst rain conditions possibly including hitting a flooded section of highway at 70 with the water washing over the top of the truck with no vision. Never had a problem. If you look at the deisgn, any water in the cowel usually cannot reach the hole and if it does, It runs into the housing and on out the back side (front of the truck) of it which is all down hill. I don't think it could reach the filter element and if it did it would only be on the very bottom, effectively removing that portion from the filtering action as the air would pull easier through the dry section. It could never get high enough to choke on water.
