Valve Adjustment
I am going to the Cummins house in a week or two so I can have my valves adjusted. Is there one way better than another to have the valves set so that it runs better and/or cooler? Thanks.
touche' my friend.....Matt I'm going to put them in this weekend. Last weekend we went fishing Sat. morning, however; the trip turned into a weekend long trip because you can't quit when your catching fish right??

Tighter valve clearance settings take more advantage of the cams' lift and duration. In the case of the cummins (especially the older 12vers) the cam is extremely lame, so we try to get every last bit out of that profile by setting the valves tight. Too tight and the valves will not close completely once hot. Best case scenario is the engine will lose compression, but valves will start kissing pistons as well!
