Upgrading 47RE

I already have TransGo shift kit and ATS deep pan that will go on 47RE, what else should I upgrade while shift kit and new pan are installed?
I'll be putting on Edge J/A on it as well later this year.

the torque converters are a week point in these trannys but that involves removing the transmission to replace. The factory torque converters can't handle the extra power the edge is gonna add. i did a converter and valve body to my tranny and it is holding the power just fine, and i am not easy on it either.

If you are going to give it the full power of the edge j/a it might be a good idea to give your tranny a general rebuild along with a new convertor and valve body capable of doing the job.

If you do the convertor as you should the trans has to come out anyway so for a few more bucks and a little time do it right the first time and be done with it.

Depending on power goals, you could upgrade some of the 47RE parts with the newer beefier 48re parts. I would also crank up the line pressure a bunch and add extra clutchs/steels to the front/rear clutch packs. I would also add a few extra clutchs/steels for the OD unit.

Billet shafts are also a decent upgrade and same goes for a decent hi stall triple disk to help spool the bigger turbo(s)

My stock 47RE with the valve body upgrade, lasted me 10000miles towing my RV. I ran edge ez and 50HP injectors at the time.

I just killed my fourth 47/48RE transmission last week, doing a burnout tryout my new dana 80 ARB unit that I just installed. I typically get 75000 to 125000 out of a transmission

There is a two bolt cover on the bell housing adapter plate, just under the turbo. Right above the plug for the manual baring tool.

If my memory is correct, I think that they are 9/16 grade 8, NF thread pitch. I can't remember is there is five or six bolts. The torque convert should be able to move back and forth 1/8in, prior to removing the transmission.

You can also get access thru the starter hole, but its very busy on that side.

Have one person spin the engine with a huge flat blade screwdriver and you hit the bolts- it went shockingly quick when i did mine- and when the trans is about 2" back make sure to saftey wire it so it doesnt fall off the input shaft. I 100% love my goerend 900/400 converter!

may I recommend a new billet flex plate while you are there. I made the mistake of not upgrading while I was already in there and I most unfortunately one day on the way to work pulled out onto the highway and just a little bit of peddle and pop. I twisted the middle of the stock flexplate right out of the outer ring. I got lucky nothing else was damaged. just something to think about.
