Turbo or tranny problem?

Installed new turbo and injectors, runs fine but if I really get into to it, it is just fine until it hits overdrive then the turbo seems to surge or huff but if I let off and then hammer it again it is fine Why is it that I can't excellerate all the way thru without having the problem when it hits overdrive. All other gears it is just fine. Thanks for any input.

Try pulling some codes, hopefully not the dreaded 0216.

Your turbo is barking...or partially barking. When it shifts into OD, with the corresponding reduction of rpm, your creating back pressure on the turbos compressor fan blades. The noise is actually a compressor stall, and should be avoided as much as possible.
Corrective actions...
1- Be in a position to go into OD at full throttle....or floor it as it goes into OD. This will reduce the back pressure and minimize the noise.
2- Keep it out of OD till you hit at least 2200 rpm in 3rd.
3- Remove the silencer ring...if your new turbo has one. This allows some back pressure to bypass the compressor blades....reducing its effect.

Most larger turbos do this...just the nature of the beast. You can learn to drive around it....and the huffing does reduce as you get more miles on the turbo.

Good luck!

I'm having th same problem with a PS 64 right now. the turbo REALLY has a surging problem, but only in overdrive and only between 25-35 PSI, after 35 PSI it clears up and runs great, Any ideas?

On edit
It's not a "Barking" problem it's a "surging" problem, it happens under acceleration not when you lift the throttle

I have managed to bark my 64 maybe a 1/2 dozen times, but only if I go from full throttle to none too quickly.

As far as surging goes, I haven't experienced it, but with a six speed if I'm hitting 25+ lbs I'm looking for the next gear. Are you surging while towing or empty?

It's surging wile empty, but mostly in OD where you have a higher load with lower RPM
