Head Torque ?

Question. Before I start really modding this 12V I am going to get timing bumped to 15.5 or 16*, adjust valves and Kill the DP. With 135,000 miles I have never had the head torque checked. Before I adjust the valves I am going to torque the head. Whats the procedure for this with a stock gasket ? Do you back off first, then tighten back up ? How many pounds should they be torqued to ?

I'm pretty sure I was told by Piers to do a line re-torque to 120 when my HG on the 24V started seeping. Start at the front and run down the head in a line then back to you on the next row then back up and so-on. I would shoot them a email or call them to confirm the torque # or find a FSM the # will be in there

Starting with the bolt between the #3 and #4 valve covers, you go clockwise.

3 steps:

First - tighten all bolts to 66 ft#, then go back through and recheck.
Second - tighten the bolts that go through the rocker stands to 89 ft#, then go back and recheck.
Third - give all bolts another 90 degrees while grunting heavily.

Lube the threads with a light coat of thin clean motor oil or wd40 before torquing. This will ensure proper torque.

Also: do not flood the holes with oil.
