Turbo housing damage
i have a 1997 completly stock 12V and its got about 110,000 miles on it. the turbo bearings got worn out and the fan blades wobbeld and "eat" little groves in the housing.I a almost sure this was caused by grit gettin through the air box because you can see groves in the tube goin to the turbo.
My question is do i need to worry to much about my motor, i am looking to replace the turbo of course but am i gonna need to rebuild my motor anytime soon.
second question is what do i need to look for on my air box to get it to seal up so i don't have this problem anymore
any suggestions on a turbo/intake/downpipe/injector setup...... i work construction so i am in dust alot in the summer so anything i put on it would have to filter all this out.
I am think ill put a 4'' exaust and a PDR HX35 turbo and a scotty air system 2 on it this sound good to everyone?

I was gonna recommend that exact setup to you. Your engine should be fine for another 110,000 miles but who knows. Without pulling the head and actually looking at the pistons and everything else you can only speculate. I have a feeling that if it was going to die it would have done it already.

It takes some big stuff to mess up your turbo by coming throught he intake. My guess is that it just went bad, and had nothing to do with the intake. I just dont see how dirt could cause grooves in the intake tube. Your motor should be completley fine. Just put another turbo on it, and driv er' some more.

Do a boost leak check for starters....that will kill two birds with one stone...it'll tell you if you've pushed any particles into/through the IC system and also tell you if you need to do some fixing in order to make use of you overall boost pressures when you upgrade...

one way to do it is to pull the tube off the bottom of the turbo outlet where it goes tot he intercooler, get an end cap made of pvc pipe to fit the tube and clamp it on using the rubber boot. in this end cap you can drill a hole and use a tire valve stem...the rubber slip in kind, put it in the hole then pressurize the system with an air compressor just like you are filling up a tire...usually 20-30 psi is sufficient to find any leaks.
once you pressurize it, if you dont hear any big leaks use a tire gauge to check the pressure, wait 15-20 minutes and check again to see if it has leaked any pressure.
