Tricks
This question has probably already been answered a million times, but Im going to ask anyway since Im new to the sight. Are there any low bugget tricks that I can do to my ride to help performance. Im not affraid to wrench on it. Just dont want to get into major tear downs. Im talking the little things. May Duramax friends are getting on my nerves. Dont want to tear it up either. Thanks for your help.

you can make it sounds better by removing the silencer ring in the turbo (free) and striahgt piping it, just find some pipe thats 3 1/2" like your stock exhaust and get a welder to install it.
there is no easy tricks on these electronically controlled engines (24v) like the 12v guys can do with pump tweaks and fuel plates

Manually keep it out of Overdrive till you over 50 mph. Better acceration, less smoke and much easier on tranny! ( no searching for best gear) If you have a 3.55 rear end...you can go to 60 mph.
Drill holes in bottom of your air filter housing for better flow. This is usually done in conjunction with first HP add-on. Don't know if it will make a difference to stock motor.....but, couldn't hurt.
Check with Dodge dealer for any computer reflashes, they seem to have about one a yr....but be careful. Some reflashes, in the past, have been for emissions only and seem to hurt performance. If you can't find someone who knows for sure the results you'll get...might want to walk away.

Silencer ring removal adds no performance gains, just makes the turbo sound louder.
There really isn't much you can do without adding a fueling/timing box or a bigger set of injectors.
300 rwhp is about all your stock TC will handle, after that you're looking at updating some internal parts of your transmission along with adding a lower stall TC.

For something that will actually give you a performance upgrade the easiest thing to do is put on a power enhancement module such as an Edge EZ or comp. Whether you call that low budget or not I can't say. It's 400 - 600 dollars. Like Mike says, other things need to be watched once you start adding too much.

I found out, by accident, that removing the silencer ring reduces "barking"...or back pressure on the turbo fan blade when reducing rpm's. A least it did for me.
Took the ring off my B-1 turbo...to test for difference in boost with vs without. No difference in boost....but BIG difference in the back pressure "woof-woof-woof". Completely eliminated it, other than WOT runs with quick release on throttle.
Turbo whine was louder...but not unpleasant, IMO (TAG helps a lot). Passengers sure do ask about it, though!

Aerodynamically, I can see an argument for AND against the ring,,,,just have trouble going against the R&D guys who never planned to block off the holes outside the fan blade.
All this assumes what I read about Dodge requesting the ring addition is true. Can't remember where I saw this. Anyone know for sure??

I removed the silencer ring. Really no big differance. Im saving my mad money for guages first then edge ez or comp, just depends on prices. Does anyone make unit that has all guages built in one small unit. Not really that big a deal I do like the pods. Thanks for the info.

BD's X-monitor is a digital display that will give the 3 readings you are looking for (Boost, EGT, Tranny Temp). Personally, I don't like the looks of it, I like the "old school" analog gauges, but that is just my opinion.
I would suggest saving the extra scratch and get the Comp. A lot of people have bought the EZ, liked it and wanted more, then end up buying a Comp anyways. Remember, you can run the Comp without "tapping the wire" (Injection pump wire). This will save your tranny until you have the funds to upgrade that.
Good luck,
