Transmission temp sender

Installing trans temp gauge in my 01 Dodge 47RE. Guy at local Diesel performance shop said I could put sender in 1 of the 1/8th"tapped holes on passenger side of case. He said there are five plugs and to put it in third from front. I can only find 4 plugs. Will this work? and if so which hole do I use?

it will work, but it won't give you accurate readings, it'll just make your guage move. i read somewhere on here that the hole your speaking of is only part of the fluid or what not and is inaccurate so i wouldn't recommend it, but it's your choice/truck/tranny.

the proper place for location should be in the "hot line" going from the tranny to the heat exchanger, this will give you the hottest readings and let you know of too high of temps before something bad happens.

i've got a link to a good thread for you, but i gotta find it first, i'll be right back...

found it, this will explain everything. also, about the line they talk about with the fitting already in it, www.dieselmanor.com also them now, and more than likely cheaper that getting one from the dealership.

I have a sender in the hot line and one in the Magtec pan. The one in the pan hardly moves and the tranny would be toast before the readings there show anything. SNOKING

Yeah....

I have a friend who pulls a massive toy hauler with an Ecursion. He says the same thing, the pan temperature does not hardly move and the hot line temperature can be scary hot.

Get one of THESE and do it right.

DO NOT PUT IT IN THE TEST PORTS. WHY? THIS will tell you.

Good chioce.
Using the tranny test ports always leaves out the readings in some functions, like reverse or first. Plus if your probe is too long it can damage the tranny.
