I am guessing you will be around the 425-450hp mark and probably 850- 900 ftlbs. If you are having your trans built, i would get the billet input shaft, it seems as though you are into a little bit of "hot roding" the truck like we all are. It is much easier and cheaper in the long run to put the billet input shaft in when the tranny is out rather then having to pull the tranny and put one in at a later time, its a fair amount of labor to pull the tranny. You can hold off on the billet ouput shaft untill a later time since all that needs to be done is drop the overdrive unit. Beware though, the output shaft is just as weak as the input shaft. Where are you getting the tranny built?

so input and output shafts generally are done at the same time since they are both just as likely to break right? and when is an intermediate shaft needed?

The billet shafts are expensive, thus this is why many people opt to leave them out when they have the tranny built unless they are going to be drag racing or sledpulling. When i had my tranny done, i had the billet input and intermideate done at the same time because the entire tranny needs to be dropped to install these. I did the output shaft at a later time when i had the money for it. If money wasnt a limiting factor, i would say get everything billet the first time around. I guess you need to look at what you plan on doing with your truck and what your power level goal is going to be.
