trans temp on manual?

Well I broke the 4500. Im going to a 5600. Since its costing me so dang much money I want to try and make sure I don t hurt it. Is a trans temp gauge on a manual a good idea? If so what would be a high temp? I pull heavy a couple times a month, 10k empty/ 18k full. I found a trans temp gauge in the shop , new in the package fihure maybe I should use it and maybe a rear end temp gauge too. I have a mag hi tec cover.....I think it has a place for the probe. Worth it?

Is there a way to run a cooler on a manual? How about a reservoir for added oil capacity? Think of worst conditions imaginable....thats what I deal with regarding heat. Laughlin NV (the middle of hell) in july.....25k lbs and pulling those hills from a dead stop at the bridge in the middle @ 122 degrees outside. Baker CA (death valley) , Vegas etc.....

you can get whats called FAST coolers for the nv5600...they go on each side where the pto cover is...bolts right on, each side adds 1 quart of oil capacity (total 2 quarts)

and it also comes with a 1/4" NPT fitting to allow for the temp. sensor to be installed. for a pair of these coolers its $179 from www.genosgarage.com

for a real experience- i have these coolers installed on my 6speed and with the trans temp gauge going from 100*-250*...i have yet to go higher than approx. 140* and that was running 70mph for about 80 miles in 6th gear (unloaded) on the highway on a 95degree day.

i have not towed with the guage installed yet but i would think it should not get too much higher

The FAST coolers will bolt to any standard PTO opening. I've seen them on Getrags, 4500's and 5600's. A good way to add capacity and cooling surface area--I think they are finned as well to take better advantage of the air moving over them. I've got a sender in place of my upper fill plug. I then over-fill the tranny by 1 quart through the top loader. I've seen 225-230 running in 5th @75 after 100 miles. When the roads are wet, it never hits 200 on the same stretch...maybe my tranny needs water/meth more than my engine, hehe.

Getblown is right on with the fast coolers.

Another thing that I have experienced is stick with STOCK lube. Redline MTL sent my tranny temps through the roof unloaded. Stock lube gets to 160 MAYBE pulling around 14k. BUT it's alot cooler up here than where you are at.

1320, I sent you a pm also.

The only reason your temps are running so high is because your tranny is overfilled. More is definitely not better, the engineers who design these things spend much time designing for the proper level.
If you continue to run it overfilled bearing failure is in your future.
