trans swap from a 5 to a 6 speed
trans swap from a 5 to a 6 speed
I have a 99 dodge 3500 4x4 cummins with a 5 speed thats burned up .. Should i rebuild the 5 speed or buy a 6 speed. What do i need to make that swap? I heard it wont work at all..
It works, you can even purchase the whole conversion from a couple places or do your own. I havn t done it.....but in the future if I have a problem I probably will, or sell my 5 speed and clutch etc...I thik the 6 speed conversion would cost around 2000, plus a clutch....in my case thats another 1000...
i did it on my 97, not to bad a deal. i used a front drive shaft from a 01 4x4 for the front, it bolted in. i used a later model crossmember. it has both patters to fit 5 or 6 speeds. and i shortened my rear drive shaft 5 11/16 ths of a inch.

or you just take your flywheel in to a machine shop and when the surface it have them redrill it to take the larger clutch.
its pretty much a bolt in deal beyond shortening/lengthening the drivelines and redrilling the flywhee as your 99 has the right crossmember
