Tranny temp gauge hot line fitting questions

2 questions for you guys:

If I got one of these:

http://www.dieselmanor.com/dm_products/FTG-MFD58.asp

First of all would I be able to put it in the hot line on my Dodge? Reason I ask is it says its for the Allison.

Second, reguardless of whether that fitting would work or not, would I have to drain all the tranny fluid in order to put one of those fittings in?

Thanks

DFO

The hot line on my 96 is 1/2 dia. I just finished doing this a couple weeks ago and lost about 4 liters of oil. I went to the local parts store and tried to buy a swage lock manifold just like the diesel manor one. They could not get it so I used a 1/2'' compression Tee and tapped the top port 1/8'' pipe cost about 6 bucks. Easy to do.

I got one of those Swageloks for sale for $15 shipped in the classifieds. It's one piece so less leaks to worry about.

..I'am in the process of tapping into my trans line, to install one I got from diesel manor myself. Its the last of 3 gauges I just bought from them. I found this link of a T fitting that looks the same as the one from DM. click this link & enter this part number in search: 5929K146 and look on the left column side. http://www.mcmaster.com/

I will be using the trans line that goes up the passanger side of the engine block and the rear line closest to the transmission to engine mounting..( to find the hot line out of the trans., start your truck and run around block, then feel for the warmer line..good luck as I hope to do it this week sometime...it justtoo dang HOT around here for working outside on the truck.....
