Putting in my new Goerend tranny tomorrow hopefully, and I was wondering if anyone has replaced their factory lines w/ hydraulic hose. If so, how long did you get it cut and what size inside diameter? I want to pick it up ahead of time obviously, and can't take the lines in to show them b/c they're still on the truck. Any experience w/ this? Also, will the factory screw in fittings work w/ the hose? THANKS! -Josh

I cant tell you the lengths (close to 50' I think)
I went from the trans to the
HE (now mounted under the rad) to the
front cooler (one pictured) to the
fan mounted cooler under the bed then back to the tranny. I used single wire -10 hose

 

Is that 1/2 in inside diameter hose? Also, how did you rig the connections/couplers? Thanks! -Josh

 

-10 AN is 10/16" is 5/8" ID hose. I think I bought 25' of stainless braided hose and these connectors when I relocated the heat exchanger & lines:

The coolers I have are -8 pipe (1/2")
The fittings into the coolers are -8 pipe > -8 JIC and the hose fittings are reusable -10hose to -8 JIC
The factory HE needed a -6 pipe > -8 JIC fittings
Certainly over kill but it was stuff I had so....

 

Hey Brandon do you remember the P/N on the fitting that goes into the trans that you used? Did that go to -8 JIC?

 

Yeah, it's a 1/4" NPT to -8 AN (JIC).

Awesome. Thanks guys. Tranny was going to go in today, but noone wants to help me in 10* weather. Go figure Guess I'm waiting until Fri when it warms up a little.

 

What is the flow in this thing? tranny-heat exchanger-cooler-tranny? I'm all mixed up. I need a diagram or flow chart What is the purpose of the heat exchanger, and why did you relocate it?

I've got to pull the lines out tomorrow morning and make a run to the hydraulic shop and need to know what I'm doing. You pulled out all of the rubber AND hard lines and replaced everything w/ hose, right? Also, did you just make some brackets to clamp them up where you needed? THANKS!! -Josh

I had to relocate the heat exchanger (HE) when I put the twins on because in the factory location it was in the way. The HE is important for 2 reasons one it brings the trans fluid up to the engine temp when its cold and it also cools the fluid if its higher than engine coolant (Water to oil coolers are way more efficient than the air to oil ones)The flow comes out of the trans to the HE > to the cooler in front of the rad > back to the tranny. Yes to replacing all the lines completely and yes to making brackets (think Zip ties ) Hope this helps a bit.
