Question Tps Sensor???

Has anyone ever cleaned one???

I've cleaned them up in fox body mustangs and they work again, but I just wanted to check w/ you guys b4 I go out and buy one for $350 from dodge, since they're the only ones I have found to have it...

Let me know if you can clean them or maybe a inside scoop on where to get one for a reduced price...

Thanks

Technically speaking it is a APPS (Accellerator Pedal Position Sensor) on the Cummins equipped Dodge. Are you getting a MIL light? Is it an intermittent problem? I believe I have read some people have cleaned theirs with brake cleaner. Do a search to verify. Also, have you tried the APPS reset procedure that is in the Tech Facts?

In the factory service manual it clearly states that the APPS is an unserviceable item. If you remove the sensor itself you will loose electronic calibration and end up having to purchase a new one. It does sit just behind the timing case and breather so I could see how one could get a little dirty. As for cleaning it, the only thing to clean would be the plug and receptacle. Simple squirt of electrical parts cleaner should be all.

Question

It threw the check engine light yesterday, thats when I had the code read and cleared. It said low voltage, insufficiant voltage to TPS sensor...

I cleaned the plug and the throttle assembly w/ brake cleaner and followed it up w/ WD-40 to dry up any moisture left in the plug...

I also noticed the disclaimer on the bracket not to attempt to adjust or remove settings on throttle sensor so I did'nt dare to remove the torx screws holding it in place...

So if I clean it up, reset it , and still no good does anyone know where to get one cheap???

Exclamation

I appreciate the info, but I don't think we can take ours appart like the 12v's, ours might be a little more complicated than that since they call it an APPS which basically does the same thing. The only difference is the internals!!!

My first old geezer bike a Goldwing. I have said many times thru my youth I would not ever own one but I eat Crow on this thing. Just sold my last two BMW"S and was going to a k1200lt but the I wanted to try a goldwing and it is nice, 2100 miles in 5days and it was smooth. Goodluck,,Rick

Talking

Scooped up a used TPS from a junkyard w/ a 30day warranty for $50 w/ bracket and all...

I figured give it a shot since I wanted a bracket anyway for powdercoating...

kandgo,
I'm working on building some metric choppers in between owning sportbikes, if you want I'll send you some pics...

And by the way I've ridden a Goldwing, and I don't care what anybody says if I'm going to make a long trip give me that bike. Its the cadillac of cruisers, unlike the volkwagons of cruisers ( HARLEYS ) just like a bug, hardly moving but making a ton of noise!!!

Sounds like a good deal on the used TPS and a warranty too! Yea the Goldwing is a big ole beast but it is smooth. When you get done on your choppers lets see it? Here is a write up of me and the Goldwing in this months WingWorld Magazine http://www.wingworldmag.com/magazine...responses.html Goodluck,,Rick
