I leave mine on 3X3 all the time for everything.........works great and doesn't belch to much smoke when towing. When I had my 35" tires on and stock 3.54 gearing I could tow my buddies rock crawler in the mountains at about 65-70mph and see no more than 1000* EGT unless I got slowed down and then it climb up around danger zone until I got the boost up.

EGT's are not a problem. I gross out a 19,300 lbs GCWR and only ever have to get out of 5x5 on very long and steep hills....other than that, it is 5x5. 4" exhaust and a Scotty II really help with the egt control. I only have RV275's, though.....no doubt, I would be turning the Comp down or off when towing heavy if I had bigger sticks and stuck with the HX35.

1x1 towing 12,000, but I'm probably a candy a$$. New turbo's on the way, I'll probably bump the box up next time. Never any egt issues at that weight on 1x1 with mach 1.5's.

I ran 4X4 on my comp. It allowed me to pass faster, yes the egt's got hot but its only a couple seconds. If your towing heavy and in the mountains you might want to run 3x3. I have tried to tow anything with my current set-up but the only issue I should have is coolant temps and thick smoke clouds.

I usually tow with the Comp off for smoke reasons, especially in stop and go conditions. I also turn it off when I use the cruise control because of extreme throttle sensativity. Sometimes I'll turn it on, once up on the highway and rolling along. The added timing adds to fuel mileage. As for egts, you can always turn it on 5x5 and control them with your right foot.
