Top Speed

I was on the interstate lastnight, cruising at a comfortable 85-90 mph. I came up on this can that wasn't going too fast, so I got over and passed him, and I looked back and he is staying with me. I put her down, and all I had was 95-100 if I stayed in it. I had my water meth on, to try to keep it cool, so I could stay in it longer, but I couldn't pass 100. Needless to say he passed me We both got off at the same exit and it turned out to be a STROKER VAN! AHH! INSULT TO INJURY! Anyways, what do I do to go faster? The equipment id tag under the hood says a 3.55 rear. I have a 3k gsk, #10 plate full foward, afc full foward, no wastegate (40# boost) and water/meth @ 15gph, BHAF, 4" straight pipe all the way. The guy told me that he has a 12 valve that will do 127 mph?

Maybe my age is getting to me a little, but be carefull with the top speed stuff. Most of the tires that we are running on our trucks are not rated for the over 100 mph stuff.

What was your RPM when you topped out? What was your boost? What was your EGT?

My RPM was no 3000. It was maybe 2500? My EGTs once I got to 100 were around 1100. My boost was maxed to 40# Its just like I get to 100 and she wont budge off of it...

Go over to TST's site and pick up a governor spring kit for your engine, they are inexpensive and easy to install. That will solve your problem, but do heed the advice on the tires!

more the reason you should have gone 4K

then again you do have a smaller pump, so perhaps you did run out of fuel, I have a 4K and even with 215's i would breeze over 100 MPH, i havent had the courage to try it with no 60 lb valve springs, keepers and retainers, and my stock turbo will not like it, I can free rev to 3600 o so easily, but i tend to shift at just about 3000 rpms. Top speed ive done is about 120 MPH...

And yes, our tires are usually not speed rated, so it is rather risky...

Hit 150 on the dyno before. Never tried to go that fast on the street and never will.

117mph and held it for 1/4 mile before I backed out. I think I could have done 120 if my truck hadn't started defueling at 2700 instead of 3200.

Wheres that at? I'll give that a whirl. Do you think my #10 plate defuels when I get up around there? I can see it defuel with the boost gauge when I run it WOT in 1st gear. It pulls strong till it gets to a point, then it just kind of runs out, which is the defueling...

it only makes sence that it defuels

It noses over alot easier, wheras the 100 plate does not nose over, it just increases your speed and EGTS, with the EGTS usually winning that race. Perhaps you need to try a 100, and get a bigger exhaust housing...

My concern with the 100 plate is the torque converter holding it. How much more horsepower will I have with a 100 vs. a 10? How about a 5? I just dont want to kill my TC. Exhaust housing on the turbo? How much and where?

If I'm correct, the only difference between a 10 and a 100 is that the 100 has the low end fueling of the 10 but the high end fueling of the 0. So it doesn't really add any more power than the ten since it's based off the ten. It just adds more fuel on the top end.
