Those without Fass/Air Dog....Fuel Filters?
Those without Fass/Air Dog....Fuel Filters?
For those of you running a Holley or something like it, What are you using to pre filter the Pump? I'm running 1/2" lines and I'm using a Inline Fuel Filter. I might be getting a 1000miles out of it. They seem to clog up quick and at $9 a peice, its gettiing expensive for a truck I dont drive often.
What other options do I have?
Thanks

You need to be real careful running a fuel filter on a pump's inlet. Any restriction on the suction side causes cavitation, which is a pump killer. The best idea is to run a coarse, screen filter on the inlet (to trap large junk) and a fine micron filter on the pressure side. Or you could go and get an AD or FASS and just be done with it...

I just run the stock fuel filter on my truck, and my carter has a mesh screen in the inlet side of it from the factory. Works pretty well. I can usually tell my fuel filter is starting to get dirty after 5 thousand miles or so though.

I don't think you would need any kind of pre-filter as long as you are pulling fuel through the factory module. The pickup module has a fine enough membrane that anything that passes will not be large enough to harm the pump. If you use a draw straw setup, I'd use a 120 micron mesh screen water seperator.
I run a permacool (http://perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page26.html) fuel filter water seperator right after the tank. Filters at 2 micron. I have a fuel pressure gauge at the vp44.
