Sure could use an explanation

Could one of you techno wizards pleased tell me the difference between the vanaaken and the edge ez.

Don't need to know which is better but comment on how they work. Which one comes on at what rpm and where they perform at. Do they both have built in boost foolers.

This is for a 2002 ETC, and I'm wanting best street, towing setup not best race setup.

I believe the edge may have a little more advertised torque but thats not really a concern for me.

I have ran the CPC on the 99 I had and was most satisfied with it.

Thanks in advance for any input...................Pete

The Edge EZ I think is adjustable as to when the power is delievered. I've never had any experience with the Van Aken. I have an Edge COMP hooked up as an EZ. That's a nice setup. Cause once you upgrade the tranny, you can up the power. ;D

The VanAakin plugs directly into the VP44 with a wireing harness, where as the EZ plugs into the Data Port and the MAP sensor.

The EZ you have 3 settings on, the VA you don't.

Hope this helps.

I believe the VanAken is the most aggressive on the market.

I did like it when I had it in my truck. The low end came on very hard.

No adjustment unless you are running the Blue Chip F.M.S. it allows you to change the torque mode from none to mild to wild.

Most all the fueling box company's "push" their numbers a little. I know that this surprise’s you but don't be fooled it's just marketing. If you put them to the test the real numbers would be different.

And then you would be told that this is "Best Dyno" we got and that your numbers would vary.

OverFueled
I "know" the EZ is advertized at 65hp, and it adds 65hp, just not "peak", its down in the lower RPM's..... a dyno will show this.

I can't speak for the VA box, but I do believe the newer ones have the boost fooler incorporated, and from what I remember most users prefer the older style due to a power difference. Also from what I remember the VA feels "stronger" then the EZ on some trucks, but it is not adustable at all like the EZ for smoke control.

Sorry Pete I don't have any hard numbers for you.
Re:Sure could use an explanation

I used the EZ on my 2001 dually pulling a 30 footer with a slide. I was very impressed with the difference --(loved it ! ) ----but that said after several trips to Calif down I 5 and back over those grades I suspect it contribuited to the demise of my Tranny. :'( Rather than $5,000 for a new tranny I chipped that amount and another $5,000 and got a 03 ho 6 speed. I put the EZ on the shelf , as I didn't think the dealer would want it. ;D Wanted to give it to my brother --but his is a 2000 and it won't work with his. Guess it is trading stock now. I resolved to never have another Auto tranny ! ! (especially Dodge) I really like the 6 speed.
So --------Does some one have anything to report on the vanaken for pulling, for this guy?

Re:Sure could use an explanation

Got a small comparison for you if you wish. I had my comp on my truck with no wire for a bit at first and that was my only mod. A friend has the same truck but a 200 with a VA box and we lined up my daulie and his 2500 and I ran side by side with him with a larger truck. Personally Pete if I were you here is what I would run for towing an edge EZ and RV275 injctors talk to Rod at wildcat diesel he has literally hunderds of trucks with that combo and he has nothing but praise its a great towing upgrade and well worth it.

Re:Sure could use an explanation

Duelin-
is the reason that the EZ won't work on the '00 because the MAP sensor plug is different? I know they are different on the 02 from the 01's. If you call Edge, they'll send you a map adaptor or $20 i think. I had an 01 EZ, and they sent me an adaptor for the 02 plug.

Re:Sure could use an explanation

Pete, I believe the VA does only fueling increase. Atleast the older models.

Since the PE EZ were both a Timing and Fueling Box I liked the engines response better. That along with the boost fooler and the adjustable levels for Injectors/Low end smoke control It was the Sure winner. But to be honest I haven't tried a VA in over a year or more. The PE EZ's have always been rated as one of the best or the best Buy.

Also on most of the trucks since 2001 Dodge is putting a anti Tamper sticker on the conection that the VA use. Where as the PE EZ just plugs into the data port and Map sensor which have no tamper decals.

My Clear vote the PE EZ

Re:Sure could use an explanation

Here is a post I made on "The other" Board.

Advertisements for CPC (CAN Bus Pump Controller) type boxes can be somewhat misleading. They say to expect up to 65 Horsepower over stock. What they do not say is that this 65 HP gain is at approximately 1900 RPM. The total peak Horsepower gain from these type of performance modules is in the neighborhood of 25 Horsepower at 2700 RPM.

The current crop of these boxes also incorporate a boost module. A boost module allows the ECM (not PCM) to see only normal boost levels. A boost elbow (a simple bleed orfice) is at times used with these boxes to raise the wastgate setpoint to allow higher boost to keep EGT under control. This works on the HX35 Turbo. The HY35 Turbo requires a turnbuckle to alter the wastegate setpoint. A CPC Box by itself will not raise boost pressure.

VP44 Equipped engines run on what is called a Controller Area Network ( CAN )

You can plug into two places on the engine to acces the CAN. One place in on the VP44 Data Port, the other is the three pin data port that is in the vicinity of the factory lift pump.

CPC boxes modify the signal to the VP44 within the limits of the CAN protocol that is used to operate the engine which is currently 2^12, or 4096. Anything more than that and the VP44 must be overidden by an external source to increase fueling.....this is where wire tap boxes are used. The current CAN Protocol used on the ISB in the Dodge Application is J1939.

The load a CPC box places on the VP44 is minimal. It is no worse than installing the ISB275 program into the ECM.

Bottom line...all CPC Boxes are essentially the same, they just have a few different bells and whistles.
