does anyone know why you cant tow on the performance setting?

 

Yes, the timing is too far advanced and you will stretch your headbolts and blow the headgasket.

If you have installed a stud kit, O-rings, and a copper headgasket, then you can pull with it on the performance setting. You do have to watch your EGT's, though.

 

can you haul any amount of weight without any of these mods?

 

Yes you can haul with a superchips tuner, the only time i've ran into problems with timing is when we were stacking it with an edge comp box. Just watch your pyro.
