Definately straight pipe it. We finally straight piped my 01 and it sounds so much deeper than before.

Was thinkin about the mbrp 4" or 5", but...thats a lot of money...need more noise now, saw ya'll talking about straight pipe. Sooooooo, called the local muffler shop in town, 3" x 65" long with expanded end.....$25.00, yep, that's me.....cheap!!!

BP,

Straight piped mine today....all I can say is WOW!! As far as how loud it is, well, not to bad if your not in the throttle, sounds pretty good in 4th at low speeds then get on the throttle. The noise in a quiet neighborhood, well I see it like this. You have any Harleys come down your street, straight piped, no baffles, mufflers and they are jammin down on them....ROOOOOAAAAAARRRRRR as they go by?? I have some that come up my road doing that. Sooooooo, the way I see it, I'm probably drivin by their houses at times at 5am in the morning going out to work or late at night doing tractor repairs and coming home....so I see it as payback time. They blast my windows loose in my house.....so now it's my turn, CUMMINS style!!!

Get a Tip, too...

Good way to enhance the sound even more is to get a tip to go on that
straight piped exhaust. I've got a 4" straight pipe back to about the rear axle. Had it elbow out before the rear tire, but the soot issue was annoying. Now it has an 18" long 6" tip pointing directly back, but hidden underneath. Might get the tail pipe to show it off out the back rear.

I've also read that a 5" straight pipe would be deeper. Thinking my 6" tip is doing the trick there, but wouldn't mind it even deeper.

Can't imagine having a diesel not straight piped - the sound, smoke, and smell is the best!

I do miss having a straight pipe. I still get complaints about how loud my truck is with the muffler, so what the heck I'm thinking one of those straight through fake mufflers would be nice for cops and/or inspection.
