strait pipe or not?

I'm wanting to strait pipe my truck, but have been told if I do then I need to do something with some sensors in the exhaust system can anyone tell me if this is going to be easy or not? Also I have seen some of you saying something about a silencer ring. What is this?

You know I have not heard of a sensor. Of course I could be wrong. I did the straight pipe about 6 months ago with no problems at all. The silencer ring, once removed, will let you hear more of the turbo whistle.

Probably the simplest and most fun mod I've ever done.

65 inches of 3 inch exhaust pipe expanded on one end to slip over itself and that's it. Drop off the mess underneath the truck, (you may have to torch it or sawzall it)) install the new pipe ,tighten the clamps, weld a little if you want and start having fun.

no sensors no nothing.

If it were a gas rig, it would have an oxygen sensor, and since it isn't, it doesn't have one. Someone must have thought you were talking about the exhaust on a gas engine. Cut 'er off and let 'er rip!

no sensors at all man, ditch the silencer ring which is on the front of the turbo held in by a snap ring. You may think that the sound of a straight pipe will be too loud when you do it.We just finished a 4 inch turbo back exhaust with a muffler and 5 inch thereaft and it sounds phenominal. No difference at an idle but nice deep, loud tone when you step on it.Also get a bhaf (napa # 2790)and toss the stock airbox. These easy mods will open up your truck a little.

I love my straight pipe

I have an MBRP 4" system

I had the muffler on it for a week. But was totally dissapointed with the lack of noise. Put straight pipe in. The engine noise is so loud that you really don't hear it in the cab. Really have to roll down the passenger side window to hear much.

I tell you what, 4" straight pipe, turbo back sounds great. I always romp on it when driving through a tunnel, over a bridge with a concrete wall, or when buildings are close to the road. It just ripples off and sounds awesome. Can set of a car alarm too

And no, there is no sensor. There is a muffler and resonator. As mentioned, gas engines have oxygen sensors. Nothing on a diesel.

Get a 4" system though. Good performance improvement.

Definately straight pipe it. If you are worried about it being too loud, you can just cut off your muffler and leave your resonator on. It will have the straight pipe sound, just not quite as loud. Take out your silencer ring and get you a bhaf and you can enjoy the sound of your turbo spooling.

He man take everything out the only time you need a muffler is when you due your inspections and most the time they don't even look under your truck. Also the shorter you make it exit the truck the louder.

I would definately go 5 inch if I was gonna buy whole new exhaust. The sound is much deeper and throatier. They say you lose power if you have 5" with under 500hp, but I didn't notice any difference in power. I sure do like mine.
