Star Wheel Adjustments

Hey, I slide the stock cam plate forward and got a nice lil increase in power. enuff to have to be careful when speeding up on a dirt road!!!

Now, I have heard some about adjusting the star wheel, so I have some more questions.

#1 Will this increase power any???

#2 What exactly does this do???

#3 How is this done??? Or, where can I find directions???

#4 How many clicks???

And any other info that you might be a ble to provide would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Sam

Re:Star Wheel Adjustments

On the top of the cover that you took off to slide your plate there is a cap. It takes a 8mm or 5/16 allen wrench to remove. The starwheel controls the amount of preboost fuel delivered. Most people say ot adjust it about 20 clicks. That means turn the top towards the engine and count the clicks. You my want to try going a little at a time because you can make a bunch of smoke before your tubo spools up. It isn't a bad thing, but I recently heard of one guy in Utah that got a smoke ticket. : :

Re:Star Wheel Adjustments

The first thing I did to my truck was crank the star wheel. After I slid my plate (only about 1/2 the distance towards the front), I had to much smoke (some will say there is no such thing), so I backed it off to close to the original position. No problem with smoke during cruising, just a big puff upon acceleration. Now much less without any major performance loss.

If playing with the plate, then you need to gt an EGT gauge. This is VERY important!! Good luck, Kevin

Re:Star Wheel Adjustments

When I purchased my truck, this was one of the first things that I did.
I spun that star wheel as far forward as it would go.
It provided a lot of smoke at low rpm under heavy throttle.

Two weekends ago, I spun the star wheel back to where it was when I bought the truck.
I immediately noticed the truck had more power off the line and a little more snappiness off the line.

I am assuming that at my altitude (5800 - 6500) I had the star wheel too far forward and too much fuel was being pumped in for how much air was available.
Now with the star wheel back a little, its a better mixture of fuel to air and that is providing better low end response.

Rich.

Re:Star Wheel Adjustments

I cranked it and now I think Im getting slightly less power. Plus,Im getting worse fuel milage. Im gonna take it back part way and see if that helps.

Re:Star Wheel Adjustments

Keep a few things in mind, sliding the AFC housing forward does big changes and the star wheel is like a fine tuner. Sliding the stock plate is fine but if you'll add a boost elbow to the picture it's a bunch better.

Re:Star Wheel Adjustments

Ah, Star Wheel ... adjustment technique ... did that & re-checked it ... don't you just keep spinning it twords the engine until it's so far forward you just about can't adjust it anymore?

That's where mine is at. 8)

Re:Star Wheel Adjustments

I spun mine back a few dozen clicks and it reduced the smoke on accelerations, but my truck is a dog! It is as slow as stock! Maybe I need to spin it forward again?

Re:Star Wheel Adjustments

Heat and compress a couple of coils. Pretend like you didnt see the smoke :. Or just simply cut the spring in half. Thats where mines at. anything else and the truck just dont act right.
I think "a few dozen clicks" is way too many. Maybe try a FEW clicks . Ill bet you yield better results this way.
